A very gritty and base read is found in the pages of Bent Creek. I felt it wasx very well written, the reader is transported into their world, hungry, cramped poverty stricken and problems galore. Following the daily life ups and downs of this mining town, small populace of families and how they managed. Very engrossing true to life, and raw. A great book.
WOW, I loved this book. It chronicles the story of a sassy young woman and her family living as "the poorest of the poor" in the Kentucky mountains. It's got moonshine and coal mining and you learn a lot about the lives of the "hillbillies" in this book. I loved the vernacular, the characters, and the story. Really great!
Sometimes, when it comes down to survival, you do what you have to do. Rachael Riley did exactly that!
