Hi!, I've just started getting into mystery and thrillers. I've been through a couple of Agatha Christie's works, and I've started the Bourne Identity. Does anyone have any good suggestions... I like international intrigue, but not 400 pages of pure political drama. Any thoughts? I would really appreciate it! Brenda |

Try looking through Read-alikes from stopyourekillingme.com. If there are some authors you have read & enjoyed you can look at similar authors or look at similar genres. Great way to discover new reads.

James Rollins writes some wonderful novels. They are based around the world, usually involving treasure. Lots of intrigue and action. I really enjoy his books. |

Ken Follet and Martin Cruz Smith have been long-time favorites of mine. They're basically spy/international intrique novels and many deal with the Cold War and the "old" Soviet Union. They're very good!! |

I'll definitely second James Rollins. The Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child books are excellent too, as well as the ones they write independently. You may also want to look at Catherine Coulter's and Kay Hooper's more recent books. |

Anything by Robert B Parker is a fast, easy read. They're like 'cookie-cutter' recipies for a mystery. Just the names of the bad guys change. Robert Crais is easy reads too. Fun (because you get to know the main characters so well) and suspensful. |

Ok... I'm asking for the same recommendations. I've been reading Robert B Parker, then branched off into Robert Crais. I really enjoy Crais' books... Any recommendations for these types of mysteries? LOL...and no, the author doesn't need to be named Robert! |

Dorothy Gilman's Mrs. Polifax series is a good choice. Her travels while working for the FBI take her to all kinds of European countries, the Middle East, Africa & Mexico. She is very discriptive about the locale she is in, some of the customs, etc. |

Not having a good day can not spell my name even right today, but want to put in my 2 cents. I love Clive Cussler book , great stories and there is always a bad guy who loses in the end and Steve normaly gets the girl. He has the NUMA files (Dirk Pit or Steve Austin leads like former CIA Opratives) or the Oregan stories is currend day mersenarys/ CIA can't do it any more so they pay these guys big bucks to do it. And they always have some new technolgy that will distroy the earth that must be stopped. The Oregan stories always reminds me of the original Mission Imposible, except they travel the world in this floating fortress descised as a rusting freighter. Like I said spelling will not work in my brain today, sorry for all the misspelling. Cindy Last Edited on: 10/31/07 9:35 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |
