Camryn and Adele are the very best of friends from their meeting. They stand by each other thru thick and thin---until Camryn finds out two weeks before the wedding that Adele slept with her fiance. The wedding is off, the friendship is over, until two years later Adele contacts Camryn: she is dying, and she wants Camryn to adopt her daughter. It's not an easy decision for Camryn---she's still angry with Adele and she has never, EVER wanted children, she's busy building a successful career but Adele has no one else to turn to. This wasn't one of those trite, 200 page romances. Sure there is a romance, but the real focus is on the evolving relationship between Camryn and Tegan, how Camryn reluctantly and painfully sacrifices her lofty career goals for more humble one suited to a single mother, and how Camryn learns to forgive Adele and live her life. I really enjoyed this book and basically read it in a single sitting. I can't wait to look up more of Dorothy Koomson's books.

An eye-opening journey of redemption, motherly love and an understanding of the fragility of the human condition. This is a charming book about families and how it doesn't take the colour of ones skin to say who is a mother and who is her daughter.

The premise is one I had not encountered in literature before. I found it to be thought- provoking and rather enlightening. I would definitely recommend it.

Couldn't put this one down once I peeked at the first two pages to see when I wanted to read it. Not your usual sappy chick lit, but a well thought out story of love, death, forgiveness, and moving on after a loss. I highly recommend this one.

Wow...this book blew me away. It's was a rollercoaster of a ride and I wanted to stop reading it and continue until I was done, both at the same time.

I don't keep most books, they are swapped or donated. However, I couldn't give this one up. It's in a friend's hands right now being read after I highly recommended it to her.

This is the first book I've read by this author. However, it definitely won't be the last!

i enjoyed this book, the subject matter is a bit heavy for 'chick lit' so i would not call it typical. i liked the story and the characters were well drawn. I like her writing style and would consider another of her books in the future.

A cute story, very easy read. Good for about every age group out there. Definitly a "chic" book. :)

This book was an excellent example of the true test of friendship and how you can find love and yourself in places you never thought to look. There are a few surprises that the author has placed in the book, sometimes things are not always what they seem to be.

I really loved this book! It was so good! I was actually quite shocked by just how engrossing the story really was - not to mention how surprisingly sad it was for such a cheerful cover. Really, it was just so riveting. While reading it, I didn't know how I wanted it to end... nor was I able to really predict the ending, either. I just loved reading this and I am anxious to read her other books!

This book blew me away. Watching the relationship between Kamryn and Tegan unfold, how they dealt with Adele's death and the interplay between Kamryn and Luke and Kamryn and Nate was wonderful. I could not put this book down. I read it at work at lunch and snuck to read it all afternoon until it was finished. A definite read.

This book was just wonderful. I grew up in the 50's and 60's and even though living in South Dakota I remember hearing about all the uprest and taboos between black people and white. I like to think we have come a long ways, but I know there are still hardships for the black people. Great book!

This is the first book I read by this author. It's English chick lit, which is always a bit different than American chick lit. This story has a lot of damaged and screwed up people who are real emotional survivors. The interpersonal situations and the character's lives are quite messy, and everyone has something in their background that is very flawed or hurtful. But they persevere and keep on going forward to reasonably successful lives with some semblance of lasting love, or at least close enough. A lot of the reviews see the book as unlikely and with poor characterization. Too me, it seems more like a more British style novel where EastEnders soap opera meets Bridget Jones' Diary.

My very first "chick lit" book, I loved it. I read the first four chapters before I bought it because I wasn't sure about it, but after reading a bit I knew it would be worthwhile.
