Lalyss's keep was overtaken by the King's overlord and she was forced to marry him. The first day she met Dreux he had killed numerous persons in her village and she's terrified he's going to kill her too. They spend one night together (to consummate the marriage) before all hell breaks loose again, and again, and again.
I had a very hard time getting into this book as it was just plain boring. It finally picks up about 3/4 of the way through and ends strong. Great conclusion to this book but the storyline obviously continues. I'm not sure if I can stomach another 200+ boring pages in book 2. But this is Alex's story so I'm going to try, especially since I already purchased it.
interesting storyline with likable characters.
For centuries, Kalyss has been trapped in a deadly unending cycle as she desperately tries to free her trapped husband, Dreux, from his stone prison. Nine times she has failed, been killed by Dreux's brother Kai, and reborn to try again. Two mysterious entities have their own reasons for trying to help Kalyss. Then events take a different turn, as modern-day Kalyss escapes Kai. But she has yet to remember Dreux and their curse; will Kalyss figure it out in time?
