America, 1950. Four different families living in different parts of the country all wind up in California in search of a fresh start. Characters include a nightclub singer, a mother of three battling a drunken and abusive husband, a cabinetmaker hoping for redemption and a wealthy couple who are not immune to loss and targedy.
