I wore out my first copy of this book and didn't replace it right away, thinking there are so many other cookbooks out there. I quickly realized how often I referred to this book for not only recipes, but for conversion charts, substitution charts, cooking times etc. Essential for all kitchens, in my opinion.
This is one of three cook books I own, and I cook everything from scratch 3 times a day. The other one is made from a binder with all my keeper recipes inside. With having the internet, cookbooks are rather useless, this is my go to book. I have a reprint of the original 1950's version of this and a modern one. I tend not to need recipes to often but this book has all the basics and techniques. Also Wonderful conversion charts. Highly recommended.
A cookbook you'll use again and again. Great resource for all those basic recipes. The pancake recipes are simple and all very, very good. Whenever I need a standard recipe I always look here. A perfect cookbook to add to your collection!
My mother-in-law gave me this years ago when we were first married, and it is the first cookbook I turn to. Aside from easy and well-explained recipes, it has great color photographs and useful reference charts, such as cooking times for different types of meat by weight, etc.

Wonderful cookbook been around for AGES it is the one I remember Mom using when I was a child . It has all the old family favorites: Oyster dressing for Thanksgiving,Lots of Candy for Christmas including Divinity!,Lots of valueable information for anyone who wants to go back to a more wholesome time bake home made bread, noodels, can fresh fruits & veggies from your garden . or find out what the right cut of meat is for what dish . This book is a must have for any home .
One of Better Homes and Gardens classic cookbooks. Having to decrease my cookbook numbers or I wouldn't be getting rid of it. I liked it because of the huge number of varied recipes and that they were down to earth ones for every day 'folk' like me!
