reviewed Big Red: Three Months on Board a Trident Nuclear Submarine on
A really well-told and well-written story of the lives and work of a crew aboard one of our Trident subs. Waller shares the good and the bad, the boredom, tedium, monotony and repetition of training so the crew will be able to immediately and competently respond should the order be given to annihilate a target.

Also interesting is to learn of the varied backgrounds of these dedicated sailors and how they and their families fair when they are at sea for months at a time without any communication, charged with avoiding detection by both friend and possible foe.

If you enjoy reading about our armed services and "what makes them tick," you'll enjoy Big Red. You'll see how the members of a small, normal but select, well-practiced group handle the prospect of releasing a rain of death and destruction on over a hundred cities or sites anywhere in the world. You will come to appreciate the hope that the very existence and continued vigilance of the Tridents and Trident crews will lead to continued nuculear deterrence.
