The Times Literary Suppliment says, " Extremely intersting...Mr.Scott's montage is frist-class.[and]The book itself is beautifully composed." As well as being "Evocative... beautifully written & adroitly constructed." according to Bestsellers. Here the author, of the well-known The Raj Quartet, hauntingly recounts a man's life with a masterful blend of exotic excitement and emotional clarity. Paul Scott is also the author of The Jewel in the Crown (my personal favorite), and The Love Pavillion; which were made into splendid movies.
