the plot was appropriately devious as I'd expect from Bishop Blackie, and reviewing the time it was written, I was not surprised to find the problems the U.S. Navy was facing at the time, women on ships, large navy, small navy, discussions still holding strong feelings for people today. What I didn't particularly like was the constant preaching of the issues. I'd have been satisfied better, had Greeley stated the issues and then gotten on with the story. Instead, we have every character in the cast of characters spouting their own or same gospels over and over.

Don't be misled, I did think it was a good read, and I'm a sap for a good twisted ending.
