This book is a spin off from the author's Cat in the stack series. Diesel, the cat from that series, is staying with The Delucorte sisters, two very southern, well mannered women in their 80s. The cat on the cover, isnt Diesel. The two animals will show up later in the book.
I really thought this book was delightful. I loved the whole mystery idea, and setting. Basically, their long time, mooching dramatic friends shows up their home requesting sanctuary from her murderous family. Then comes the whole family right after her. This setting reminded me of an Agatha Christie novel setting. I found the Main characters sweet and enduring, smart and thoughtful.
I am looking forward to the next books. 3.5 stars is a good rating for cozy book, I give 5stars to masterpieces of literature.

Good story, keeps you guessing. Surprise ending, nice feel for the next one in the series. Nice to have Diesel present and meet new characters. Look forward to more about Peanut and Endora. Should be fun.

I really didn't expect to enjoy this book, I only read it because I love the Cat in the Stacks books. Much to my surprise, it's wonderful. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. If you like the Stacks books, you will like this series too.

Two senior sisters living in the south, have a surprise visitor one afternoon - a sorority sister who has "run away from her family" in California. Given their upbringing they invite her to stay. With that invitation comes a host of family looking for her and a series of murders and disruption to their comfortable home. Good start to the series.
