An inner city mother and her three children are shot and killed by a 12-year-old boy. Detective Gunther Mulvaney is call to investigate and he and his team wind up hunting for the person who supplied the gun to the child.
Milo Krantz is the first to be arrested. He is a well known rent collector working for a despised slumlord. As much as he declares his innocence, when he later appears in court, he confesses to the crime and says nothing more, not even in his own defense.
Detective Mulvaney immediately suspects that Milo is taking the fall for someone ..but who? and why? And what is Milo's connection to the judge? There is a private investigator who is also looking into Milo's case. Who has hired him ... and why? So many questions and no answers.
This is an extremely well-written thriller. It's a slow start while the author minutely draws pictures of the characters, bringing them to life. From there, the pace picks up significantly and this reader got caught up in the drama. As the case progresses, there are several views as seen through the eyes of various characters.
There are some interesting twists that I just didn't see coming. The novel is also about the ethical and moral decisions that each of the main characters must face ... leaving readers wondering about themselves and what they would do.
I highly recommend this one! The author has several other books out there, and I'm sure going to be taking a look at them, as well.

I don't consider this a 'thriller', it does grab your attention from the first and it's a short book, read it in one day, however, the story goes in a direction completely different from what it describes
I would almost put this in the 'romance' genre but it doesn't really fit there either, so I'll just say it is worth the time to read it and you'll be taken in by it
