Blinky Palermo: To the People of New York City
Blinky Palermo To the People of New York City Author:Blinky Palermo, Lynne Cooke, Karen Kelly, Michael Govan Blinky Palermo began his last work, To the People of New York City, in 1976 in his studio in Düsseldorf, completing it in January 1977, shortly before he left for the Maldive Islands, where he died. It is composed of 15 parts configured from 40 aluminum panels with acrylic in bars and blocks of cadmium yellow, cadmium red and black. A... more » sketchbook documents the development of the panels' composition. Since this artwork is dedicated to the people of New York City and very few publications on the artist exist in English, this volume provides a key representation of the artist's work. This final artwork, in particular, has never before been published in English. Accompanying texts examine the relationship of Palermo's work to his generation of German and American artists and provide a critical, art historical context in which to consider his oeuvre. To the People of New York City is on permanent display at the Dia Foundation's site in Beacon, New York.
