hi, is anybody else reading/already read blue and black by gena showalter? I'm having trouble getting into it. The writing almost seems like a caricature of her previous books, and I don't like all the modern references.

Yeah, I wasn't impressed. I generally like the Lords of the Underworld series because I like the world and some of the characters, but even the writing in that (romance wise) isn't that great (but she writes great snark and humor, which I do appreciate in books if it's actually funny).  But the Otherworld Assassin (which seems to be a tie in to Alien Huntress) series I think is not up to that standard.

Black and Blue in particular I did not particularly like because the h/h were ready to get married after spending very little time in each other's company. And, there was no particular romance to it. I like more depth to books.

Yes, I also love underworld, some books have better romance scenes than others I will say that. I didn't like any of the alien books (and I read basically all of them) disliked most of the atlantis books, and with Black and Blue, the humor is really awful. him calling her honey badger is stupid and dated. snark is fine if it works, but I don't like constant snark throughout the whole book, nor do I really like Black, she has no substance. I'm not sure I can drag myself through this book. But lately, every book I pick is giving me problems, so maybe it's me.

I really liked Black and Blue, and can't wait for the next one on the series,  but don't care of the LOU that much. I love the Alien Huntress series and sad that so far Dallas will never get his HEA.

I don't remember who dallas was-I think with alien it just wasn't as interesting and the humor took over the plot which is what it seems like black and bue will do. I also like more darker heroes so maybe that's part of it.

I gave up on Gena Showalter after her last LOTU book. Her writing never really impressed me but they were amusing enough to keep me reading until I got annoyed at how childish and ridiculous the characters/plots are. Lately I'm losing patience with a lot of authors I used to read.

krgirl, I used to really like her lords books, but now its almost like her plots have taken a backseat to endless snarking between the two major characters. and the romance scenes are getting pretty bad too. I might have to take her off my autobuy completely as it is I have her next book on here wishlisted and have no intention of buying it.
