This is by Shannon Drake, not Sharon Drake.
From the back:
Embraced by the darkness of night, she found heaven in his arms...

Elise...Beautiful as a dream of Avalon, her eyes were the color of aquamarine gemstones; her hair, of fire and gold, was the emblem of a shattering secret heritage locked within her heart....for she was the bastard daughter of Henry II, King of England.

Sir Bryan Stede...The Black Knight. A more fierce or loyal warrior did not exsist. His indigo eyes burned with desire for the flaming-haired beauty- yet his honor-bound duty ignited a bitter fury that held his passions at bay. Between them lay the mysteries of a precious sapphire ring- and a stormy destiny that defied both heart and soul...

As England's King Henry II lies dead in a French castle, with illegitimate daughter, Elise, grieving at his side, thieves barge into the sanctuary intent on stealing the royal treasures. In attempting to stop them, Elise is mistaken for one of the brigands and is captured by the King's loyal knight, Sir Bryan Steede.

With her red-gold hair swirling around her while she screams angry epithets, Steede rejects the idea of Elise's innocence. All he knows is that she inflames his aroused senses and he makes Elise his, body and soul. Fearful of the seductive hold Bryan has over her, Elise escapes to her small French Duchee. But newly-crowned King Richard and his all powerful mother, Eleanor of Aquitaine, plot to marry Elise to the Steede.

As Elise is forced to follow Bryan from the French countryside, to the chill Cornwall coast the two inexorably and unwillingly fall in love. Bound by passion the lovers are soon torn apart by war, captivity, suspicion, and jealousy, until they are finally joined together on a bloody battlefield outside Jerusalem.

BLUE HEAVEN, BLACK NIGHT is a sweeping tale filled with vivid details of medieval life, the Crusades, colorful, human portrayals of historical figures, as well as a highly sensual and stormy romance.

She is called Elise, as lovely as a knights dream. She conceals a shocking secret heritage, she is the illegitimate daughter of Henry II. He is Sir Bryan Stede. Known as the Black Knight, the fierce and magnificent warrior follows no law but his own until he beholds the exquisite Elise. His reluctant prisoner, she will become his most cherished bride. Against the pomp and pageantry of Midieval England, this is the passionate story of a man and a woman bound by a tempestuous love...a love that all the forces between heaven and hell cannot rend asunder.

Embraced by the darkness of night, she found heaven in his arms . . .
Elise . . . beautiful as a dream of Avalon, her eyes were the color of aquamarine gemstones; her hair of fire and gold, was the emblem of a shattering secret heritage locked within her heart for she was the illegitimate daughter of Henry II, King of England.

Sir Bryan Stede, The Black Knight. A more fierce or loyal warrior did not exist. His indigo eyes burned with desire for the flaming-haired beauty yet his honor-bound duty ignited a bitter fury that held his passions at bay.

Between them lay the mysteries of a precious sapphire ring -- and a stormy destiny that defied both heart and soul . . .

This copy IS a bit worn, but it's a hard to find book, so I'm listing it for other new Shannon Drake fans looking for her backlist.

love this book! There was never a dull moment, from the beginning to the end! Drake uses historical details to make this book more real and myth to give this amazing love story a sense of the magical. If you're looking for a PASSIVE love story, where the hero and heroine falls in love at first sight and lives happily ever after, then this is NOT the book for you. However, if you're looking for a book that will keep you entralled by the hero and herione's clash of wills and sexual tension, then this is definitely the book for you! Drake takes us along w/ Bryan and Elyse on a emotional rollercoaster filled w/ adventure, denial, betrayal, loyality, and finally true and lasting love. From England to the Holyland, Drake leaves us gasping for more!

Fabulous book!! :) I have read some of Shannon Drake's Vampire trilogy (awesome books!) and wasn't sure I would like one of her "normal" romance books. This book is anything but normal! :) 542 pages of delightful, romantic suspense! Worth reading!! Almost wanted to keep it! :)
