Excellent. You'll remember this book long after you finish. Read in order: "Blue Hour", "Red Light" and "Black Water". You'll enjoy them more because some of the characters flow from book to book and sometimes you need to know about their past to fully appreciate their stories.
In some ways a sad book, but very engrossing mystery. Enjoyed it quite a bit. I am not generally a fan of "series" but would like to read a follow up...
copyrights1999 this one is a real page turner, there are leaks, and false leads, the crimes are sickening, DO YOU LOOK IN THE BACK SEAT BEFORE YOU GET IN YOUR CAR???? WELL YOU SHOULD, Tim is a semiretired veteran cop starting a death sentence-his own,Detective Merci he is young enough to be his daughter together they track down a psychopathic killer who's been abducting beautiful young woman from malls of Orange County ,Dubbed the purse snatcher , this is a very good book , it will keep you on your toes for sure, A cant lay it down type of who done it ? But with more to go !!!
It was refreshing to read a mystery with an older protagonist. The characters are so well drawn that I was completely absorbed in this book and hated for it to end.
If you like fast action and characters you actually care about then check this one out.
Tim Hess is a retired cop, fighting lung cancer, who's called back to active duty to find the diabolical killer who "signs" his murders by eviscerating his victims. His boss and partner in the investigation is an attractive, brusque detective named Merci Rayborn, who quickly dismisses the lone suspect in the case, a paroled, chemically castrated Romanian rapist living under virtual house arrest in an apartment complex near the latest crime scene. Hess stays on the rapist's trail, though, tracking an embalming machine that may be part of the killer's bizarre m.o., but by the time the clues come together, Merci is in murderous hands.
T. Jefferson Parker pits an unlikely team of detectives-who become an unlikely pair of lovers--against a ruthless killer.
Not a bad book. Seemed a bit choppy in parts but pretty intresting characters. I preferred his audio of Silent Joe much better. Read by Richard McGonagle who was pretty easy to listen to.
Unabridged 8 cassettes Approx. 9 hours
This is Great! I loved this story, and couldn't stand to put it down. You'll love it too.
Excellent book. Strong characters and a fascinating plot. I really like this author.
tim Hess is a semiretired veteren cop staring at a death sentence--his own. Detective Merci Rayborn, young enough to be his daughter, is brash, impatient, and not someone from whom Hess wants to be taking orders. He certainly isn't planning on falling in love with her.....
Together they must track down a physopathic killer who's been abducting beautiful young women from the malls of Orange County.Dubbed the Purse Snatcher for the chilling way he he brags about his shockingly distinctive crimes, he is T> Jefferson Parkers most original creation yet
Another great book by Parker (does he write any not great ones?). This one has an unlikely team of detectives but somehow he makes it believable and works wonders with character development. Surprise and somewhat upsetting ending but even that works. Highly recommended police procedural mystery.
My favorite author! Love the settings and his writing.
Wow! This is a GOOD read. It keeps you guessing right up tp the last page.
Old Dectective paired with a young female dectective on a quest for a Psychopathic......edge of your seat....
Very good read on a lot of levels. Great characterization as well as a good thriller.
A chilling thriller with unexpected twists, good characters and keeps you guessing right up to the end.
Great Police mystery. Tim Hess, a semi-retired veteran, andDetective Merci Rayborn track a serial killer dubbed the Purse Sntcher
dective Merci Rayborn is my favorite!
Superb! My first Jeff Parker book, but certainly not my last. Solid realistic characters, a conversational style very easy to read, and plot turns and twists that will leave your mouth wide open. It doesn't get much better than this.
Exciting...this is a good one
Good read, veteran cop, falling in love with a detective, while tracking a phychopathic killer..
Do you always check the backseat of your car before you get in?
I loved it. My favorite so far. He keeps getting better.
I just couldn't get into this one.
It is just filled with pages of 'junk', just stuff you don't need to know and is of no use to the story.
I didn't like Merci either AT ALL!
Great narrator and story. This is a thriller and truly likeable and admirable characters. The villian deserves to be put away. This one is captivating and compelling to the end. If you are looking for a story that has it all get "The Blue Hour". Enjoy
Similar to Patricia Cornwell. Didn't really enjoy as much as others by Parker.
This story was interesting enough for me to look forward to getting back to it A tough female detective barely tolerates the world she has to police. A decent man gets paired with this brutal partner to solve a series of murders while he is fighting an aggressive cancer. A dark story of pain and suffering offers little hope but develops into a surprising ending. it's Fast paced with a beautiful take on one mans love and appreciation of his final days doing good and soaking in the sun and sea of southern California.
Abridged version on 4 cassettes. Enjoyable!
