I enjoyed the suspense in this book. Kay Delaney is an excellent detective and really worked the clues to figure out who the bad guy was. Of course, it took 325 pages and roughly 2 weeks but she did it with the help of her partner and lover, Danny Finnerty (Finn). I figured early on that the jailed killer took the blame for someone else but I didn't know who until the very end. The clues were there but I couldn't put it together. Well-written with very likable characters...even the bad guys!

Baltimore Police Detective Kay Delaney lost her partner a year ago in a shootout with serial killer Bernard Eales. She is finally getting it back together thanks to the capture and imprisonment of Eales, when a fresh murder copying Eales signature method of operation occurs. This throws Delaney back into partnership with former lover and fellow detective Danny Finnerty. As more murders occur the tension and frustration mount for Delaney and Finnerty. The tale starts slowly and involves quite a bit of backing and filling but as the book goes along the pace increases and you find yourself really beginning to empathize with the characters. A debut effort by Ms. Haus, her next, BLUE VALOR, is scheduled for a January, 2006 paperback release.

Never was a unknown author such a surprize! Riveting and chock full of suspense, this debut novel is spell binding. I received a copy of this book when I attended Romantic Times Book Club convention this year in St Louis. There were perhaps hundreds of books either won or given away and due to the fact I didn't know this author or had heard of her, I saved this to read almost last of all the books I brought home with me.
I should have read it first!
Who ever requests this book will get one fantastic read.
