Mylar ribbon. That shiny wrapping ribbon works. CDs. Shiny wind chimes. Or netting. (They make some to protect fruit trees from birds.) Face it. The oak tree attracts them. Food and shelter in one. Are they eating the cat food? If so, you need to put a top over the food. Like under a box, low table, or net. Ideally about 6 to 8 inches high. So the cats can get in but the jays will need to bend. There are strict laws protecting birds that migrate. |

I've seen a kite on a wire that was cut to the shape of a hawk. It moved up and down the wire. Be sure to move the owl around. They will get used to it if it stays in one place. |

Goods luck! They get very brave very fast! For a while I lived in a house with burglar bars on the door, which was great because the cats could come and go as they pleased. The papa blue jay started perching on the bars, then making short flying trips into my house, despite the fact that we had 3 cats living there - one of whom was an adept bird slayer. Can you shoot a super soaker at them? The water should be a decent deterrent without actually harming them. |

My mom used to throw ice cubes at the squirrels. Well, she still does. I just don't live with her now. |
