I was checking the status of a BoB trader who had multiple "less than positive" comments on his swap report.  A couple of the unhappy swappers mentioned that PBS postability must not extend to box traders since the books they received were in less than good shape.  I can understand one unhappy swapper, but there was a definite pattern here.  Of course there were lots of happy swappers, too.  There IS NOT a difference in condition of books that can be sent in a box swap, are there?  But there is no recourse to recover from any damaged books that one may receivefrom a box swap, either, is there?  Any thoughts?

Well, since BoB trades come from a person's posted bookshelf, those books should be in PBS postable condition. But you are right--aside from leaving an unfavorable comment, there is no other recourse since no credits were "spent" on the books. It is one of the disadvantages of BoBing.

As with ALL PBS swapping, credit swaps or BoBs, PBS leaves it up to members to work out problem swaps. In the BoB setting, if you receive unpostable books you contact the sender and let them know the problem and what you want to do to resolve it - you can ask for nothing, ask for replacement books, or ask for credit compensation. Just like in a credit transaction that has been marked RWAP, the sender can agree to what the receiver asks, or they can say no. Follow up in the BoB is by leaving negative Feedback on the sender where follow up on a credit transaction is marking it as unresolved. Both leave that sender with black marks on their account and a BoB with a lot of that kind of Feedback can be hurt by people looking at it and refusing to trade with them.

The system is different, but the requirements are no less and the end results aren't really that different, just different processes to get there.
