Body Double (Rizzoli & Isles, Bk 4) (Audio CD) (Abridged)
Body Double - Rizzoli & Isles, Bk 4 - Audio CD - Abridged Author:Tess Gerritsen, Anne Heche (Narrator) Returning home from a trip to Paris, Boston medical examiner Maura Isles confronts a nightmarish scene. Police cruisers line her street and slumped in a car at the end of Maura's driveway is a dead woman, her head bloodied by a gunshot wound. Cops and neighbors gape at her as she approaches. Only when Maura looks at the victim does she under... more »stand why everyone is so shocked by her arrival. The dead woman looks exactly like Maura. Within a week, the DNA lab delivers a stunning verdict: the dead woman is Maura's twin. A twin she never knew she had. Detective Jane Rizzoli, now eight months pregnant, tackles the case as chief investigator. But for Maura, this murder is far more personal and frightening.
Anne Heche does well by this latest addition to Gerritsen's series featuring Pathologist Maura Isles and Detective Jane Rizzoli. Isles must deal with a corpse who could be her twin; together with the very pregnant Rizzoli she investigates her own murky past and a series of murders in which the victims are expectant mothers. The complex plot, well-preserved in abridgment, ranges from Massachusetts to small-town Maine, with characters either voiced or suggested. For the narrative parts Heche keeps a steady pace and avoids giving any hint of the outcome. You'll be haunted by the voices of the young women kept as captives and pleased with this production as a whole. -- AudioFile
I am an avid reader. Especially of mystery/suspense books. This book was one of the best ones I have read in a while and I read a LOT of books.I have also passed this around to a couple of friends who enjoyed it as well. You won't be disapointed!
Not as compelling as other books Ms. Gerritsen has written, this gruesome story nonetheless moves fast and draws you in with revelation after stunning revelation. Eerie in parts, downright scary in others. Definitely a page-turner.
This book has some twists and turns though, the story overall is a wonderful and fast paced. Just when you think you have read it all here comes the fast pitch out of left field with another blow to the story. It will take your breath and make you wish that you could fast forward to the end for it will put you on the edge of your seat.
A Can't put it down read! Boston Med. Examiner comes home from a trip to find flasing lights and crime scene tape in her front yard. BUT WHY is everyone looking at her so strangely? She soon finds out when she sees the Body of a women that is a "Dead Ringer" for her!! Only gets better from here!!!
A good thriller. I don't have any experience with this author, but the book was enough of a stand-alone that I didn't feel like I was missing out by not starting with book #1 featuring this character.
I've read elsewhere that it's great for a medical mystery, but I don't really consider it a medical mystery. Sure, the main character is a Medical Examiner, but the only medical jargon is appropriate when describing causes of death. (Or maybe I'm too steeped in Discovery Channel medical shows and Kathy Reichs' "Bones" novels)
A little gory, but not done to death. The premise is creepy, and the ending might surprise you.
With regard to this being an audio book, once I got past Marin Frist (Anne Heche) reading the book, it was just fine. There is one minor continuity burp (or maybe it was a mildly unbelievable conclusion jump), but you probably won't notice it unless you listen to the book in one sitting, as I did.
