Called one of the best living British crime writers, Barnard has written a superb suspense novel involving the skeleton of a two-year old child found in the attic of a home where soccer star Matt Harper has planned to settle down with his lover and her three children. The child has been dead some 30 years, and Matt mounts his own investigation, struggling to understand how a child could just disappear and never be reported missing.
