ISBN 0152010645 - Board books in general tend to make me happy - cute little introductions to reading and language for cute little people. This one, however, somewhat baffled me.

Several animals have breakfast, with each set of facing pages rhyming (dog crunches - pig munches, etc). On the final page "Baby snacks" rounds things out.

The illustrations by Lizi Boyd are pretty basic, not particularly attractive, drawings. They've got a sort of "chunky" look to them, as if drawn by a child. The colors are nice, varied and bright. The text is, to me, a step below even the most basic board book text. "Bug pulps"? Really? How much sense will this ever make to a child? It doesn't even make sense to me, and I'm a good deal older than the target audience.

If your goal is to introduce new words, or even to encourage a reluctant eater, this book is all right. It's just not any better than all right.
