I received a hardcover book from Paperback Swap without a cover on it - no problem.  I have read the book and have posted it.  I have a request for it now and wanted to let them know there isn't a cover on it in case they don't want it that way.  How can I contact the person requesting the book to let them know this?

Since dust jackets are not required to swap HC books on PBS, unless a member has indicated in their requestor conditions, a message to them isnt needed. (I am assuming your are referring to dust jackets as covers)

There are members who do send messages about this, and if that is what you would like to do, you can accept the order and then PM the member from there.

Keep in mind, though, if the member doesnt want the book, you will need to be the one to cancel the order and then wait until that member has received another copy before you can post it again. If not the offer will go right back to them if they ordered this book through the regular FIFO method.

I wouldn't PM either.  If they want a dust jacket then they need an RC. They aren't required and therefore dont' require a PM.

You can't PM them without accepting the request.  If you do PM be prepared to either cancel the request and repost the book.  You'll go back to the end of the line and may have to wait for any other copies in the system to be ordered.

You should also be prepared to decide to either mail the book anyway or cancel if they don't respond.

If. in fact. you are talking about the actual book cover and not the dust jacket,  the book is NOT postable.

We assume by 'cover' you mean 'dust jacket', because books without covers are unpostable.  As already mentioned, dust jackets are not necessary for posting books to PBS.  If the receiver wants dust jackets, it is their responsibility to address their wishes with an RC.

PM's can confuse the situation.  If you choose to pm tho, give a deadline...if you don't hear from the requester by xxx date you will assume they agree and mail without further notice.  Otherwise what if they do not reply to your pm...do you send or cancel?

Thanks to everyone for their replies.  Yes, I guess I'm talking about it not having a "dust jacket".  Sorry for the confusion.  I'll mail it without a PM and hope she'll accept it.    It's actually easier to read without the dust jacket!

I've sent HC books without DJs (no RCs involved), and have never had anyone complain that they didn't receive the DJ.  I prefer books with the DJs, but don't have an RC about it so occasionally I do receive one without a DJ.  No problem either way for me.  Pat
