I've never had this happen before!

I've been tracking this book since July 28 when it was mailed with dc. Why it has taken so long to get from NJ to Central NY is beyond me, but that's not a problem, I know that does happen.

So, yesterday it showed as "arrival at unit" which I know means it reached my local post office. I expected to receive it yesterday, but didn't.

So, this morning I check and it says "delivered"!! Huh? I don't have the book. I checked the mailbox again(we have some really young subs who will deliver books once all their other mail is delivered), checked all around the ground, etc. No book.

I have pm'ed the person who sent the book so she knows what is going on, but am at a loss as to what to do next. I do have to go mail a book this morning, and they know me pretty well in the post office, so I'll let them know.

I am assuming this is all I can do? I have no idea who delivered the mail yesterday, and won't be here this morning to ask them.

I can't wait until we move back out to the country and get our old mail lady back, she was the best!

Update-I went into my p.o. today and talked to the postmaster who then had me talk to the kid who delivered mail on my street yesterday, he insists that he delivered my book to my house. He remembers the package as it was the only one he had with dc, yet when I described my house, he had a blank look on his face. The postmaster assured me they would try to find, and I felt bad, the kid is new, and he is probably going to be in trouble over this.

So what I am wondering is, if it doesn't turn up, will I receive my credit back even though it was PBS dc? Or does the sender get her credit, but I am out a credit and a book?

Perhaps they scanned it delivered when they loaded it into the truck for delivery? Sounds fishy but I hope that's the case.

Betcha' today it shows up listed as "misdelivered". I had one go to Yukon by mistake, and it showed up delivered - then a day later misdelivered - it tracked its way back to my house after a few days.

this happened to me...the sender had written 146 instead of 148, and so the mailman (who should have known better...he's always delivering to me!  lol) took it to the main office of my apartment complex.  they in turn never called me, and i went crazy looking for it for a week!

In the Help Center it states:  Remember that the book could have been scanned as "delivered" at the local PO, before it went to the requestor's mailbox--the actual delivery can be a few days later  Also, the book could have been misdelivered.

"Delivered" is just the last time they scan it.  I get the feeling there is a "to be delivered" media mail pile that they let stack up a bit sometimes, as media mail is much less obligatory than regular mail (the price we pay for paying less).

In my community there can be 4 or 5 days between when the DC says "delivered" and the package actually shows up in my mailbox.  Give it some more time.

Bren - do you have a nearby neighbor with a similar last name, or another road in your area with a name similar to your road? I'd bet it got misdelivered, if the kid actually recalls putting it in somebody's mailbox. I had a book with DC go missing once although it was scanned delivered, and it turned out it was delivered to someone named Raquel with my last name, who was a student at our local college.

When a book goes lost, regardless of how it was sent, the Requester gets their credit back.

And the sender has already gotten their credit and will get to keep it. This is why the DC and printable postage is a great idea. The small fee covers the cost when a book go lost and both members get a credit.

Well, I'm glad I'll at least get my credit back!

I am hoping though that whoever got my book will put it back in their mailbox to be sent back to me!

It's not a huge deal, not a wl book, but just a book I wanted to build up my collection of kids' books.

I thought about another street with the same house number, we just got someone else's mail for the same house number, different street right next to ours. I am wondering if she has my book!! I suppose I could go up there, but will just let the p.o. take care of it.

Thanks everyone for your help, I'll let you all know if it turns up!

This has happened to me before, and it's why I get a little irritated when senders using DC post things like, "It SAYS it was delivered a week ago, but the receiver won't mark it received because they SAY they never got it. What a liar!"

HELLO! The USPS is not infallible! I have a substitute mailman that I swear is dyslexic. On 3 different occasions, he's delivered books to my neighbor's mailbox (apartment 203) instead of to me (apartment 302). They were scanned as 'delivered' and I didn't have the book. The sender PM's me...why haven't you marked this received? Uh...because I haven't GOTTEN it. But it says it was delivered more than a week ago! Uh....not my problem, I haven't GOTTEN the book!

Anyway, the first time it happened, my neighbor's son had gotten the mail and just stuck the book pkg on a side table with some junk mail and the neighbor didn't notice it for several days, but as soon as he did, he brought it up to me. (That was the time I got the PM from the sender.) And when it happened again, he had gotten the mail so he was right on top of it. if my neighbor wasn't an honest joe, I might *never* have gotten those books, but he was nice enough to come up and deliver them to me, and we both talked to the mailman about it. It hasn't happened for several months now, so either that sub hasn't been working or he FINALLY got the idea.

And I can't tell you the number of times when I lived in a single-family house that I got mail that was meant for other people--sometimes on the same street, but not always! So do remember, those who use DC...just because it's scanned delivered, doesn't mean it was actually delivered to the RIGHT person.

I can always tell when my regular mailman (who is awesome at his job) is on vacation because whenever he's away I get a ton of mail for someone with the same house number on another street in my development, as well as my next door neighbor's mail.  I always just put in back in the mailbox for redelivery.
