I just noticed that one of the books I requested, which had been on my "enroute to you" list, was placed as a "completed" transaction.  I had contacted the sender in the past and she said she did not use PBS mailing labels or have a tracking number. Nor did I receive a Lost in the Mail notice.

The problem is, I did NOT received this book, and I did NOT mark it received!   I am totally flummoxed as to how this happened. Can anyone suggest any possibilities, or advise me as to what I should do now? -- Barbara

Have you been logging in to your account?  If you don't log in for a while it'll automatically mark  a book received.  This can be as little as 2 wks without a log in or if you had a book request/WL offer that you let time out.  It does this because some people just abandon their accounts and people lose out on credits for books they sent in good faith.  So if you haven't logged in since you ordered the book or for a couple of weeks then that's what could have happened. *It will not do this if your account is on vacation hold.

I don't know, but I do remember that between 10am and 11am, I was having problems getting on PBS & I got a weird error message that said to supply feedback to PBS. The PBS Librarian emailed me back & explained that the system had a "hiccup" this morning, but the problem was resolved.

Maybe during the hiccup, the system gliched & automatically stated that you received the book.

The only thing I could find remotely on this issue is in the PBS help docs where they address what to do if you accidentally mark a book received:

If you marked a book received accidentally from the En Route to Me tab in My Account:

  • This book was marked mailed; chances are that it will arrive.
  • Please wait for your book; most likely it will arrive and you will have already marked it as received, and won't have to do anything further.
  • Please try to be very careful about which books you mark received.

If you marked a book received accidentally from your Transaction Archive:

  • You are not using the Transaction Archive properly.
    • The Transaction Archive shows ALL past transactions, including those that were declined by the sender or never marked mailed.
  • To ensure you are marking the correct book received from the Transaction Archive in future:
    • sort the Archive by  Requested by Me - All - Title - Descending
    • Scroll down to find the title of the book
    • There may be multiple transactions for the same title (lost, canceled, successfully completed)
    • If there is a green checkmark on one of the transactions for this title, that means you marked one copy received already.
      • If you did not get a second copy of the book, you do not need to mark another copy received.
    • If there is no green checkmark on any of the transactions for this title, and yet you received a copy of this book:
      • Compare the sender's name and state of origin on the right side of the transaction with the information in the return-address area on your package to determine WHICH copy was received
    • If there is no transaction for this title at all on your Transaction Archive
      • Click My Account in the top of the site, and then click the En Route to Me tab to see if there is an ACTIVE transaction for the book
      • If there is, you can mark the book received from the ACTIVE transaction.
        • The Transaction Archive shows only past transactions.
  • If you marked a book received accidentally from your Transaction Archive you should contact the sender about this
    • You can use the PM button on the transaction to send a Personal Message
    • Explain what happened; the sender can return the credit following the instructions in How do I give credits to other members?
      • Your PM should be clear. Here is some suggested text:

"I accidentally went into my Transaction Archive and marked the book [insert title of book] received from you.   I actually got it from another member--I see now that you didn't reply to this request and did not send me the book.   When I marked your copy received, it took a credit from my account and gave it to you. Could you please return the credit to me?  I would appreciate it.  The instructions on how to do this are in the Help document "How to give credits to other members" in the Help Center if you need them.  I am very sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your help with this!"

Well, THAT'S not the problem -- I log in just about everyday (I'm totally addicted!).

From the dates, it looks like the system SHOULD have sent the book into the "lost in the mail" category, but instead marked it Received. I just hope the new updates PBS did on the site didn't mess that system up.

In that case I would contact PBS and see if they can fix this.

I do remember trying to log in earlier in the day and I got We Are Doing Site Maintenance, Please try again later.

I had the same thing happen with the exact same time stamp (10:21AM). I KNOW it wasn't me because 10:21AM ET is 4:21AM in Hawaii where I am lol. And I log in every day. So I sent feedback about it.
