Hi,

I am fairly new at this, so forgive me if this is a problem that has been discussed before.

I sent out a book with the Custom DC and postage purchased from PBS on 2/24. Under "Details", it  shows that the book has been "delivered" to the receiver as of 6 days ago. But the person I mailed it to hasn't marked it as received. The only explanation I can think of is that the receiver had me send it to her son (the address label had "C/O Love, Mom"), and hasn't talked to the son yet.

Although the receipt deadline is still about two weeks away, I would like to know whether this will cause any problems for me later on if the receiver doesn't mark the package as received?

Thanks.

Welcome to PBS Sara!!  Keep in mind, that a few Post Offices use the 'delivered' scan when they receive packages (although many PO uses the more correct 'arrival at unit') but may not actually get them delivered for several more days.   But after 7 to 10 days, I would be tempted to pm mom.  Maybe DS forgot to tell her the book was received, and a polite question could get the ball rolling.

You have already received your book credit, and a lost book won't change that.  But IIRC the requester needs to mark the book received otherwise when it goes lost she will be placed back on the waitlist and could received another copy of the book.

I usually wait 7-10 days after the book is marked delivered and then send a PM asking them to confirm whether they have received it so that I may start the tracking of the book through the USPS if they mis-delivered it as soon as possible while it is still fresh in the carrier's mind. Every time I've had that happen it has been in the receiver's possession, sometimes just misplaced. Books do get delivered wrong, but it is usually just a receiver that hasn't gotten around to acknowledging the book or someone else at the delivery point not telling the receiver it came.

Send them a polite PM noting that the system indicates the book was received and ask if there is a problem with the order.  If not, please mark as received.  I do this after 5 days.  I know that it is easy to forget to do this.  I once forgot and didn't mark it received until after the sender PM'ed me.  It was like 10 days after I received the book and I was really embarrassed.

I wouldn't do anything.   The PBS system will send them reminder messages.

For me, I know that I would like a PM to let me know the book is marked received by the DC and asking if it arrived at my home, in case it was dropped off at the wrong address.  I get my neighbor's mail sometimes and at my old home there was a lady who had a similar name and lived on the same street and I would get her mail (generally when the regular mail carrier was off).

So, I don't think a PM is out of line.  I would send a polite one asking if the book has arrived.

Thank you everyone for responding.

Another question I had is, if I send the receiver an e-mail and they tell me that the book was not recieved, then what do I do? What is my duty then?

Thank you.

If DC was scanned as delivered, then you got your credit. I wouldn't worry about it. if the book is indeed lost the receiver need to wait til the system times out the transaction before taking action.
