In December I ordered a book by Fred Pohl (http://www.paperbackswap.com/book/details/9780345446671-Beyond+the+Blue+Event+Horizon+Heechee+Saga+Book+2). It was put on my TBR pile but I never received it. Does PBS have an automatic feature where the book is put on my TBR pile even though I didn't receive it? Also, this book is not in my transaction archive, which makes me suspicious.
I PM'd my "guide" but she is not helping people right now. The PM system auto-PM'd me with a message to that effect. THanks for any help with this.

Did you check your credit registry? It'll show if you paid a credit for the book. Did you go a long stretch without logging in to PBS? If you did then it might have deemed your account as inactive and marked the book as received for you. |

It's also possible that you perhaps accidently clicked on the button that adds it to you TBR list.. This option exists you you can include books you didn't get from PBS in your TBR pile. |

If it still shows that it's enroute to you, it won't be in your Transaction Archive yet. I agree with Kate - it's possible you accidentally hit the button to add it to your TBR. |

If the book is still en route to you, it won't be on your transaction archive yet. If the book is not on your Transaction archive, maybe the book was never "officially" ordered and when you were looking at the book details page, you accidentaly hit the +TBR button that is there. I know I have done this myself on occassion! I would not worry about it and just remove it from my TBR if I don't have it. Last Edited on: 1/14/09 7:36 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I did not log onto PBS for about 10 days during the holidays, but PBS is my home page. When I start my browser it automatically logs me in to PBS each day. Ok, so I just cannot tell if I ordered the book, since if it is enroute, it is not in my Transaction Archive. That's really odd that my transaction archive won't record me spending a credit. Anyway I do remember ordering this and I do remember spending a credit, but my TA won't reflect this. What now? How do I find out the status of this book? Is it enroute? Or should I call it a loss and order it again? IIRC I ordered it around Dec 10, 2008. EDIT: Ok I looked at my credit registry. Maybe I did hit the wrong button. I think I will just order the book again. If a book is enroute, will the book show up in my credit registry?

Your credit registry will show the book as a requested book and will show that a credit was deducted from your account. The book won't show up in your Transaction Archive until you mark it as received, unless you or the sender canceled the book request. If that is what happened, you'll also see a credit refund in your Credit Registry. You can resort your TA by canceled requests to easily see if the book was canceled. Check on those things and see what you find. |

Chuck, there are 4 different places you should look: 1) Your My Account page shows all the transactions that are currently in process. If you ordered the book within the past 26 days and it has not yet arrived, it will be on your My Account page. The tabs to look at are Books I've Requested and En Route to Me. 2) Your Transaction Archive shows all completed transactions. If you requested this book more than 26 days ago, then the request has been completed one way or the other and the transaction will be in your Transaction Archive. I find it easiest to sort the archive by Title when I'm looking for all the transactions associated with a specific book. The default view is sorted by date, but it's easy to miss one that way. 3) Your Credit Registry shows all the credits coming in and out of your account for the past two months. If you ordered this book more than two months ago, it won't show up in your Credit Registry, but you said "in December", so it will be there if you paid a credit for it. 4) Your Club Communications page shows all the emails that PBS has sent you during the past 30 days. You may find some emails there explaining what happened with this request. |

Something similar happened to me. I finally figured out the problem. If you don't sign on for awhile, or if PBS doesnt THINK you've signed in for awhile, PBS doesn't want to ding the person who claims to have sent the book, so they check the book in FOR you. In my case, I sign in every few days, but the PBS system didn't detect it. Also in my case, I'm pretty sure that the sender is a scammer, because she won't return my emails. No, I'm not making this up.

Jim, please quit running around the forum and posting a member's name with your assumptions. You cannot know that she didn't send the book. It could be slow or lost in the mail. She may not be responding because she is away from the computer, sick, or conversing with the site leaders to find out what happened. I understand you are upset, but bashing another member by name in the forums is not good. |

I ordered a book, I did not get it, PBS checked it if FOR me, and the sender has not responded to 3 emails. None of those are assumptions. But I was wrong to assume that because all of this is true, the supposed sender must be a scammer. There are many possible reasons why the sender doesn't respond to email. Have you checked to see if her account is on vacation or still open? There should be a PM button by the transcation and you can click on that and should be able to click on her bookshelf. It'll say Account Closed or Account on VAcation or just bring up the shelf if they are still active. She may have gone away for the long weekend. She may in bed sick with the flu. How long are you giving her to respond? Some people only have internet access at work or at the library and only get on once or twice a week. So you should edit her name out of the posts. There's probably 100 people on here with that name and someone could have something said to them that isn't even the right person. Last Edited on: 1/18/09 1:13 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |
