I just mailed this book to someone who wanted a HC and thought this ISBN was, but the ISBN is really a paperback. ISBN is: 0553570722 Amazon.com says this ISBN is paperback: http://www.amazon.com/R-Revenge-Sweet-Valley-High/dp/0553570722/ref=sr_11_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1206579725&sr=11-1 Would someone please change the data so that it reads paperback instead of hardcover? I tried, but there wasn't an option for that. Thanks!

In PBS is it listed as a Paperback or Hardback....if PBS lists it as a Hardback you are not allowed to post your Paperback  under that ISBN...you have to post it as one without an ISBN.  While Amazon lists it as a Paperback there may very well be both versions with that ISBN.

I just looked at the Help Center. I can't believe I accidentally broke one of the cardinal rules of PBS by not noticing that I should have posted it w/out an ISBN.

Are R&R going to kick me off the site?

Rory--

You can send a note to the site's owners under "Contact Us" to request the format be changed.  The format is about the only piece of book data that cannot be edited by members, and it is difficult to get it changed, since such a change impacts all other copies posted.  Generally, if they can find any other reference to the book being in the originally stated format (hardcover, in this case), they will decline to change it.

Unfortunately, there are other listings on the web that list it as a hardcover (one is here: http://www.bookfinder4u.com/search_editions/Sweet_Revenge_a.html another is here: http://www.easybooksearch.com/keywords/Sweet_Revenge ), even though most reputable sources list it as paperback.  So, do make the request, but understand they may not be willing to change the format, since the book can exist in different bindings with the same ISBN; whichever format gets into the system "wins" for that ISBN.

As folks have noted, your copy should have been listed as a no-ISBN title since the format was different (I know it is easy to miss that), so unless you came to an agreement with the requestor, you should be prepared that they may request their credit returned, because they are not getting the format they requested.

Cheers,
Catt

You will also note that on several sites (not Amazon) the book with that ISBN is also listed as a Soft Cover (this may me what PBS is saying is HC) but, it is also Trade Paperback and Mass Market Paperback...so thus far I have found three bindings...

ISBNs can, and often are, assigned to multiple bindings. That means that some books in a certain format can never be posted by their ISBN here.

You won't get kicked off the site for doing it once. You may very likely be asked for the credit back, which you need to do since you sent the wrong book according to how it was posted.

Make sure to go through your shelf here and remove any others that have the wrong binding and repost them using the non-ISBN method. You may want to browse the help (which it sounds like you are doing now:)) and make sure you are posting books with in the guidelines and when you post a book, read the screen for what must match and verify that they do. PBS has more strict posting guidlelines than some of the other sites. It helps us get better books!

Thanks for all your help. R&R (or Team PBS) are going to look at the ISBN to see if it needs changing.

I'll be much more careful making sure booktype matches when posting and make sure my shelf is correct.

and since no one else answered your question...I highly doubt that you'll be kicked off the site for making a mistake...if they did that then probably 75% of us wouldn't be here...

cheers

eta: sorry I was corrected, Melanie answered your question.
