From reading the help files, I'm not completely sure how to handle this. I ordered a children's book for my son and the description mentioned a poster that was included in the book. The book says *on the cover* that it includes a fold-out poster. I can tell from the first page where it was very carefully torn out, so it was at one time attached to the book (the book was not torn in the process, but you can see the spot it came from, if that makes sense). My son will still enjoy the book, but we were expecting the poster. I've orderd a couple of books in the past that had stickers and the sender pm'd me before sending to be sure it was OK some were missing, and from reading the help file, the poster should be included if it's considered "media." So, do I mark this "received with a problem," mark it received and send the sender a pm telling them we were disappointed b/c the poster was not in there and they may want to indicate that if they send a book with a poster without it next time. This is only the second time we've had any issues w/ a book in nearly a year, so I'm not sure how to handle it properly. |

A poster is not considered media. Several books come with a promo folded poster or postcard, etc. That item missing does not detract from the readability of the book. If the promo item is wanted you should either PM the person to see if it is still with the book or buy it new. |

But, if it was attached to the book, not just stuck inside, is it still not supposed to be included? This is for future reference, as I may want to repost it. |

if it was attached to the book it is considered a page of the book thus books with missing pages are not postable. This book needs to be marked "received with a problem". |

From the Help Docs: It now states, "No loose or missing text pages" As a poster is not text, it is still postable and should simply be marked received. If this was media (a CD, DVD, etc) that was supposed to be with the book to make it usable, then yes, that would be something to mark received with a problem. But, the poster no longer being inside does not affect the book unless the book was damaged when it was removed. Last Edited on: 1/27/08 4:06 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Just my personal take on this, but I wouldn't have expected the poster to be included. While an accompanying CD continue to be used in conjunction with the book, I would be surprised to receive a poster - designed to be torn out and displayed - in a used book. In some cases, it might be a lucky break that the owner had never removed it, but I wouldn't expect it. I wouldn't consider a bonus item like that - intended to be removed - a page any more than I would the advertising postcards often attached inside a book. |

Thanks. Sounds like I shoudl mark received and feel free to repost as is when he is done reading the book. |

when you post it and get a request I'd be sure and let the next person know that the poster is not there... |

Since it was a "used" book.. I wouldn't have expected the poster to be there.. but that's me. I would have asked them first. |

Supplementary/Accompanying Materials:
I would think the bottom line of this section of the help files would pertain to something like this. |

I always wondered, does a map qualify as media? I'm thinking about guide books that have tear out maps. it really isn't media, at least not what I consider media but maybe it is? I haven't posted a book here because it doesn't have the map and didn't want to get dinged! |
