I received a wishlisted paperback that has a 2 1/2" X 1 1/2" section of the paper layer of the back cover that has been peeled away, not all the way through the back cover, but only a very thin layer of paper is left.

It looks like someone taped to the back cover when wrapping the book, and when the tape was peeled off, the top shiney layer of the paper in the back cover came off.

Can I re-post this book?  I have not yet marked it received.

Thanks for the help.

Cover tears are ok if they are one inch or less.  Yours sounds bigger than that, so I would say that's unpostable.

I could be wrong but I would post it since it is not a tare but a peel. I wouldn't mind getting it so I would follow this:

"If you feel your book falls into a "grey area", you can either post the book and send a Personal Message to the requestor, or not post the book.  We have delineated what we can, and we expect members to follow these guidelines, and use their common sense in cases that are unclear.  If you would not mind "paying" a credit for a book you are considering posting, then it is probably okay to post."

Now if we could do something about Cleaved Books..... I've gotten at least 50 of them so far this year :(

Just My Opinion

Take Care,

Lisa

Hard to say without seeing it, but it doesn't sound postable to me.  If it's a wish list book, you could offer it for a credit in the damaged wish list books thread in the Book Bazaar discussion forum.

Are you meaning the plastic coating was lifted by the tape?

only a very thin layer of paper is left. - this makes me say it probably isn't postable, sounds like there isn't really much of the cover left in the spot

the top shiney layer of the paper in the back cover came off. - this sounds different, like just the top shiny part is gone much like shelf wear and I'd lean towards possibly postable.

With such a large part of the cover damaged, I would probably not post it. Without seeing it, I can't say whether I would mark it RWAP or not.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've decided not to re-post the book since I feel I should pm a requestor and advise her of the "flaw" to the back cover and give her a chance to opt out.

There is not a hole all the way through that area that I described.  But when I hold the back cover up to the light, the layer of paper that remains is so thin I can see through it.  No doubt, someone taped the wrapper to the back cover and when the recipient peeled off the tape, that top layer of the back cover was removed with the tape.  All the more reason to NEVER tape to a book's cover.

Again, thanks for the input.
