What should I do. I am new and marked it received, but this morning the book fell apart :( It is still readable, but the spine is cracked and a page fell out. Am I SOL? |

Natalie, Make sure from now on you go through each book you received before you mark it received so that this doesn't happen to you again. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do since the club doesn't have record of an issue with this book. You can contact the sender if you'd like, but there are no guarantees. Chalk this one up to a lesson learned. Mary |

Im not all that into "learning lessons" especially on an adult site. It is too bad because it is a heavily wish listed book |

There is an unpostable WL book thread in the book bazaar. You can try posting it there. If it is heavily wishlisted, I'm sure someone will snap it up. Also, an unfortunate truth is that every book must end its postability run with somebody. Sometimes that person is you (editorial). In the meantime, carefully checking the books you receive before marking them OK will save you some grief. |

I feel your pain Natalie, I used to log my books in immediately with minimal or no examination, especially if wrapped in plastic. But like you I received a couple of unpleasant surprises later :-( I've learned to open and examine every book before logging them in as received in acceptable condition. |

I'm sorry that this happened to you. I think it happens to all members at one point or another. It certainly did happen to me a coule of times. I now routinely closely inspect any book I get. I go through it several times backward and forward. I check it for smell (mold and mildew). And I hold it closed (not tightly) to see if there are some wavy areas that might indicate needing to check further for water damage. I try to make sure I do the check really soon after I get it so that I don't delay in marking it received. But if I don't have time for some bizarre reason, I don't open the wrapping until I do have time. If it is a really heavily wishlisted book, you can offer it up for a credit on the Book Bazaar as long as you describe it's problems so that anyone deciding to spend a credit for it knows what they are getting in advance. Learning lessons happen - even on adult sites. People are people and they make mistakes and some try to scam and others just don't want to lose a credit. Do follow through with any future book in similar condition marking it RWAP, asking for your credit back, and if you don't, then marking the transaction unresolved which is a double black mark on the sender's account. Also remember that sometime we will all have the opportunity to be the last home the book gets. It's an expected thing, but it shouldn't be a common occurrence for one person. Ruth |

OMG...surely you don't think you stop learning lessons when you hit 18? I'd be in big trouble if I stopped learning anything then. (Cripes, I probably wouldn't even still be around. LOL) And this is one of the lessons you learn the hard way. Once you mark in a book as received, you can't RWAP it officially. If it's a day or two later, you could PM the member and mention the damage and they might be nice and give you a credit back, but personally I would feel too stupid to even do that. I figure if I don't want to take the time to look over books when I'm checking them in, I deserve whatever I get. Cheryl
