Hi Everyone,

It seems I have a problem....I wish listed a specific book and requested paperback....when I received it, it was a hardback...I figured ,well I can read the story and send on etc...but, I decided I wanted to keep the series in my personal library so I requested it again in my wish list as a paperback since those are the type I prefer...when I received it, it's again another hardback... so now I have 2 hardbacks.

I double checked my wish list in case i messed up but nope, they were requests for paperback.... What can I do if anything?  sigh the thought of having to spend my money to send these both out again is a bit ? unnerving...

Thank you,

Debbie

Did you mark these received with a problem?  If the book is supposed to be a PB then they should not have sent a HB and you could ask the sender to refund your credit for having sent the wrong book.  When you mark a book RWAP you retain your place on the WL so you would be able to re-order the book  as soon as someone posts it again.

What is the book name/ISBN?  We can double check that it's marked correctly.  (And maybe someone on the forums here has it. )

We all need to mark wrong versions as RWAP.  Even if you do not want a replacement, it helps PBS to mark wrong formats and wrong ISBNs as RWAP.

From help:

There is a problem with the book I received

The "official" problem options are:

  • Wrong Book
    • This includes inappropriate items such as ARCs or leaflets/pamphlets/booklets without ISBNs
    • This includes the wrong versions of books (ie, the ISBN, title, author or booktype of the book you received doesn't match the PBS listing of the book you requested)
    • This includes regular-font books when you requested a Large Print book

That is such a pain--I just averted one of those over the weekend--the sender PM'd to let me know it was a paperback wanted to know if that was ok, not hardcover I had wishlisted. I told her to please cancel and asked if the ISBN was the same as the hardcover and if so she would need to list as a book without ISBN or send data edit, and if the ISBN was different to post under that ISBN only. This was someone who had been a member even longer than I have, and she'd sent out 900+ books, so oughta have known better...I was a little flabbergasted when I saw that!

If the ISBN's match, I bet they're sending you Book Club Editions.  Not that that's allowed. Just saying.  I've noticed that BCE hardcovers frequently carry the paperback ISBN.

Please mark these books as RWP and ask for you credit back. YOu may not always get it back. But markign books RWP is the only way to get bad senders off PBS. If it was a one time mistake then the RWP won't hurt them.

FWIW-the absolute worst, nastiest, I can't believe they sent this books that I've gotten have been from long time members who really should have known better.  And each time I got the excuse of "that's the way I received it".

Hi Everyone,  Thank you all for your input.

The book is:  Pride Mates  by Jennifer Ashley  (1st in the Shifters Unbound series)  ISBN: 9781616641184

I checked both hardcovers, they show that number and when I enter it into the post your book, it shows up as paperback.

The first one I just let it go, but this one, I'm going to enter as received with problem.

You think I might get 3x lucky when another hits my wish list? lol

Thanks for all your posts.

I could only find that ISBN anywhere as a hardcover, and even that wasn't easy. It appears to be a book club exclusive hardcover.

So, in this case, the listing appears to be wrong. Re-requesting the book won't do any good.

I don't know if you prefer a certain type of paperback, but here's the ISBN# of the mass market paperback.  0843960051

I would set up an RC for that book that says  "If I have requested Pride Mates  by Jennifer Ashley  (1st in the Shifters Unbound series)  ISBN: 9781616641184 from you, it is listed in the PBS system as a paperback, please do not send a Hard Cover. You will need to cancel the book and repost it as a book without an ISBN since, as the listing stands on PBS, only paperbacks can be posted to this ISBN. Thanks!" They may just deny you and send it to the next person, but at least you can stop accumulating versions you don't want.

I would also keep an eye on the listing. If it is an error they may change it. They usually won't change a listing that has a Wish List, but if it is an absolutely wrong listing, they will fix it.
