Hi, I'm a new member and this is the 1st book I requested and received and the cover and binding is, IMO, in very bad condition. The front cover is badly creased and the back cover is 1/2 torn from the binding. Granted, it is an older book so I expected some wear but I'm afraid to read it for fear of tearing the cover off.

What is the protocol? I thought that books were supposed to be in good condition?

Thanks!

If the book does not meet the posting rules, then you need to Report With a Problem-RWAP when you go to mark it recieved. You will need to explain why it's RWAP so put that the back cover is torn half off and that is not a postable book and that you want your credit back please.  Be polite.

If the back cover is half torn off and the packaging was well done (not loose in a bubble wrap mailer) then you need to RWAP, as that is not acceptable conditions for postable books.

Creases are ok.

Hi, thank you for your answer! The binding is also separated from the inside, if that makes sense? I'm really disappointed, this was the first book I snuck out of my mom's closet and read. lol

As I said, I expected some wear for its age, but I truly don't think it was a postable book.

Welcome to PBS Tonia! All of the Swapability Condition requirements are in the Help Center. If you haven't read through that, please do so (search for "swapability criteria) to make sure you know what to expect and if you need to add Requester Conditions or when to mark a book as received with a Problem.

From your description it sounds like you received an unpostable book. Cover creases are not by themselves unpostable. But the limit on a tear to the cover is 1 inch. If the back cover is half off, it sounds like that tear has exceeded the one inch limit. When you mark the book received, you'd select Problem and in the drop down select Damaged by Sender and then explain to the sender that the tear in the cover exceeded the site allowed 1 inch. You can read more on how to handle problem swaps in the Help Center too under There is a problem with a book I received!.

Don't be discouraged. The very first book I ever received from PBS was the complete wrong book.  I thought I had made a huge mistake in joining but I've had few complaints since.

Thanks for all the help! I marked that it had a problem and the sender agreed to refund my credit. I'm friendly with our local librarian and plan on taking it in so hopefully she can tell me how to repair it.

So glad you were able to get your credit back. Sorry this happened on your first transaction.  I've mostly received really nice books, most have been above the conditions for swapping.   I think you will really love this site.
