If you are looking for a great read (historical fiction based on fact) you  MUST read Touched with Fire by Christopher Datta. 99 cents from Amazon. 

The story is based on the two real life people William and Ellen Craft.  They were two runaway slaves .   She was a quadroon, and could pass for white, he was very black.
