A book was mailed to me -- I'm in FL -- from MA.  The book is "stuck" in CA where it has been scanned multiple times and is apparently still there.

  • I cannot imagine why it was shipping from MA to FL and went by way of CA.  A definite first, I think...I'm getting auto-emails from PBS asking if I've received the book.  Is there any way I can question USPS and determine the status of this book?  Or should I just wait and assume that eventually it will make its way to me.

Thanks for any help/info.

I'm wondering if the member actually mailed from CA and not MA. Maybe they moved and didn't change their address, or maybe they're visiting with someone in CA and mailed from there. The fact that it keeps getting shunted back and forth between Richmond and Bell Gardens in *interesting* though. I have no way to explain that.

I don't think there's anything you can do at this point but sit back and wait.

If it makes you feel any better, I placed an order with disneystore.com on 9/17. It was shipped on 9/18. The bar code did not appear in the USPS system until 9/25. No acceptance scan or anything. In addition, I'm in NJ and it was sent to Washington State, where it even made it out onto a truck and was sent out for delivery before being sent back to NJ. How the heck does something with an address in NJ end up being sorted and sent out for delivery in Washington? I can understand it making it to the wrong post office, but to actually get put on a mail truck and sent out for delivery is beyond me.

I have heard about problems at Bell Gardens, CA.  But I have always received the book.  Hope you do too!

That is really weird, especially since Richmond and Bell Gardens are nowhere near each other - Richmond is east of San Francisco and Bell Gardens is in the LA area, so several hundred miles apart. If California weren't so big they'd be in different states!

I wonder if it's somehow gotten mislabeled, so it's going to the NorCal distribution center, getting rerouted because that's wrong and sent to the SoCal distribution center, etc., ad nauseum.

Like Laura, I wonder if it's somehow mislabeled.  If you have access to the tracking number, you could check at USPS.com as their information is sometimes a bit different...or your local post office can check their internal tracking system.  They might even be able to have the package flagged and properly routed.

  • So it's been scanned at my local post office which means the book finished its tour of CA, and I'll probably receive it today.  Thanks so much for the input!

So question of the day...

Did Jan order a travel book, or maybe a well-traveled book?

LOL!

This book only took 2 1/2 weeks to go approx. 6400 miles.

for info you can call the  800 ASK USPS number. a robot answers the phone so it's difficult but I think when it asks what you called for just keep saying 'operator' and eventually a human answers.

Both books I've sent and some I've received have travelled surprising scenic routes although Bell Gardens is often the CA stopover. Lately books I've sent to states west of me have gone to NJ and PA first. The most memorable scenic route was taken buy a book I sent from IA to OH, the book travelled all over the country and then took a side trip to HI before heading back east to OH. It took over 3 wks but did arrive eventually.

Now why won't the airlines do that for us?  I'd love to take an impromptu trip to a few surprise destinations!

Well, I don't know about Richmond, but maybe not Bell Gardens -  :^)
