I ordered a book from a member last week. This weekend a received a PM stating that he no longer has the book because he gave it to a friend to read. No biggie but, he already printed the address label and used DC.  What do I do now?  Should I wait until the system times it out and mark never received?  The sender has already returned my credit.

If the sender already returned your credit, you can just wait for it to time out, or if it was a wishlisted book and you want to get back in the front of the queue now, let PBS know so they can cancel the transaction now. They can look at the PMs between you and the member so they will know what happened.

Did he print the label, or did he mark it Mailed?

If he printed the label, and never marks it mailed, then the book order will time out really soon, and you will go back on the WL, or the book order will be passed onto the next member. No need to do anything else.

If he marked it Mailed ... then asking PBS is the only way to get it cancelled. But, you have to get the sender to ask PBS for it to be cancelled. They will not do it from your request, even if you have PMs and such to back up the request. Only if the sender requests the order to be cancelled.

If nobody asks PBS to cancel it, then the book will go lost after 26 days and you would get your credit back from PBS at that point. (In this case, you would have 2 credits. now, so need to give one back to the sender).

A third thing you could do (if this was a FIFO order) ... is just to mark the book received (if the sender marked it mailed). That will give the "PBS escrow" credit to the sender (and you already have yours back), so that would make it all even-Steven. Then you could go re-order the book..

But, if this is a order for a WL book, marking it received will NOT place you back on the WL, so in that case, you will want to ask the sender to get PBS to cancel the order).

If you wait for it to time out you'll end up with an extra credit. He should not have buddied your credit back.  Unless the DC is scanned then he didn't get a credit for it either.  He can contact PBS to have them cancel the request.  Then PBS will refund your credit and you'll end up with 2 credits.  You can buddy one back to him.
