Hi,

I am looking for a book about what happens to animals in the wild when they are sick and or dying and how other animals treat them. It can be in story form or reference. I want to focus on the cycle of life where animals kill the weakest and why they do it. I plan to read it aloud, so it can also be excepts of books that are written for teenagers or adults as well as younger childen. It is for my grandson to educate him about man role in euthanizing their pets when nature cannot take it's natural course.

If you have any questions, please do ask.

Thanks,

Elona

I am curious if any suggestions are given. In all my children's book reading about animals, life cycle & nature & also pets and death of pets I've never seen this topic about animals in the wild or pets being euthanized. I only have seen it and heard it discussed in nature documentaries about wild animals.

If you don't know already in the movie Marley & Me they euthanize their suffering dog. There is a kid's book adaptation of Marley & Me but I have not read it. There is a different adult version of the same book I have not read it. My kids were upset by the dog scene in the movie. I'd been told by 3 parents it is a great funny dog pet movie. I found it to be more adult themes, serious nature, and very sad about the dog's suffering and watching the dog be put to sleep step by step in the movie was too much for me too, very emotional. I don't know if that movie might help you or how the books are.

There are picture books about pets dying but again it was kids dealing with pet death not euthanasia.

Sometimes we have to settle for verbal discussions. Sex ed is a topic that works for my family better to answer questions as asked rather than use books. This is coming from a complete book addict and bookworm mom.
