My daughter is just starting to read chapter books and I have a very abridged version of Little Women and A Little Princess that she has loved.  She also loves the classics that I have read aloud to her such as the Moffats, the Secret Garden, etc.  She likes stories with girl heroines and feel good endings.  We are desperate to find something that she can read by herself along these lines.  Any suggestions???

Perhaps the Pippi Longstocking books?  Amelia Bedelia?  Great Illustrated Classics has several "girlie" titles.

Anne of Green Gables; and Emily of New Moon both by Lucy Maud Montgomery  (would be a read aloud type)

Heidi; Little House books
