So many books listed give no discription of what its about, such as posting whats on the cover. I always wrote out the cover, but in the last few months, can't find where its listed when posting a book. Also, I belong to netflix.com, it has a history listing of already seen movies. I wish we had that on pbs, can't count the times I've re-ordered an already read book from years ago, not knowing what its about because of no cover discription. I might be missing something in regards to this, if so would appreciate and input. Thanks, Judy

We have a Books I've Read List. You have to rank them and put them on it yourself, but it is there.

Thanks, I should have known, but I've ordered so many books over the years, wouldn't know where to start. If there is a way to write whats on the cover I've not been able to find it anymore. I always gave a discription of whats inside.

You can add the information to a book listing by clicking on the edit book data link.  Type in the ISBN and then fill in the blanks. I usually find the info somewhere else (AMazon, Alibris, Barnes & Noble) and cut and paste.  They'd prefer you do this then writing a review that's just a copy of the back of the book.

If you've ordered a book or sent a book  through PBS it'll say that it's in your Transaction Archive. But only for that ISBN.   If you come across a book you know you've read-give it a star rating and click the BIR link to add it to your BIR.  It'll then say This Book is on My BIR everytime you see that listing.  Of course it only works for that ISBN.  Everytime I see a book in any format that I know I've read-I give it a rating so it adds it to my BIR.  I also have a habit of forgetting them and ending up with another copy and a deja vu moment when I start reading.

Every so often if I'm bored-I'll look up an author and just rate the books of them that I've read-just to help prevent myself from reordering.

Many books do not have a description written. I go to Amazon to read about a title before ordering it here. If you want to write a descritpion of a book, you can go to the bottom of any page and click on EDIT BOOK DATA to enter any of the following information; (The following is from the help center.)

What the Edit Book Data feature CAN be used for:

  • To correct a typo in the title, or a missing or wrong author name

  • To correct an incorrect "recommended postage" that prints out on the PBS wrapper for a book.

    • Recommended postage is based on the information the database has for the weight of a book
    • You can enter the correct weight for a book (it will be on your postal receipt if you have sent the book)
    • This will correct the Recommended postage that prints out on the wrapper.
  • To correct genre classification:

  • You can choose genre/subgenre on the Edit page
  • These choices will replace the genre classifications on the listing for the book.
  • To submit a book description for listings that do not include this information.

    • such as a plot synopsis, for example taken from the back of the book

  • To add "abridged" or "unabridged" to the title or book description  for an audiobook that lacks this information.

  • To assign a book to the Homeschooling genre/category in the database

    • there is a checkbox for this on the Edit screen.

If you are not sure if you have read a book before or just want to see what it is about, the easiest thing is to go to Amazon.com to see what the books are about.   Plus it can be fun to read some of the book reviews.
