If I'm doing a search for a book, but it doesn't list any as being in the database, is there a place that we can put that book on a list somewhere to be "requested" in case someone just has it lying around their home and hasn't thought about listing it?

I hope this makes sense.

(I think I figured this out.  I only knew about the Wish List.....didn't know about the Reminder List.)

So if a book doesn't show up as being "available" that's when I should put it in my wish list?    And the reminder list is for books you want but maybe don't have credits for yet?   Do I have those straight?

Leslie, if you found the book in the database but there are no copies and no one else is wishing for it, put it on your wish list. Then the first copy posted will be posted to you. Or if there are other wishers then you will be in line for it. On the other hand if you are simply not finding the book at all, search by ISBN if you have it, the PBS database draws on other sources and sometimes the ISBN search will trigger it to be added to the database. The book data would show up shortly after that and you can then put it on your wish list so you can get a copy.

A secret to the Reminder List is that it will show you how many copies are posted.  And we can set it up to sort the list by how many copies are available.  So all the posted books are at the top of the list, and all the unavailable are at the bottom.

Another secret is to set up your wish list to sort by anything other than author.  Title, date added, estimate all work.  Author sort will hide the books that do not have the author's name in the correct space.  So anthologies, cookbooks, and children's books are often hidden if the author sort is selected.

You don't have to have the credit right now to place a book on your wish list, so you can get in line for more books than you have credits to cover.  Some wish list books may be offered to you soon, others not for years, so you can figure out the credits as the books become available.

I use my Reminder List for books that I want to take a look at later to see if I want them enough to either order or add to my wish list.  I also use it to find out how many copies of a particular book are already posted here.
