My mom's sugar is getting high, and she's interested in getting a couple of books on Diabetes that have food plans in them, or even just an idea of what she can eat. She's not really interested in cookbooks, just a book with simple information that contains a good idea of what she should be eating to lower her sugars. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks! |

She may want to read up on low-glycemic diets and recipes. Basically, this is a way of eating that focuses on foods that do and don't cause dramatic changes in your blood sugar. Some books to look for are "The New Glucose Revolution: Low GI Eating Made Easy" and "The Low GI Diet Cookbook." She may also want to look into the Sugar Busters diet book. The South Beach Diet also takes glycemic index & the affect on blood sugar into account.

My dad is in the same position, and I searched here on PBS under posted books and just ordered 3 cookbook/diet books that look good for him--there's a bunch on here--I searched 'diabetic cookbook' |
