I am looking for a good romance novel that has a fantastic dog in it.  I tried to read "The Perfect Match" by Kimberely Cates and almost went into a Diabetic coma.....it was too disguestingly sweet!  No overly cutsie stuff!

i love romance stories....but I would love to have a story with a great side-kick dog.

Thanks,

Diana C.

Anyone But You by Jennifer Crusie, funny but not sugary.

Also, Getting Rid of Bradley by her...I actually like the romance even better in it.

The only one that comes to mind for me is Guys and Dogs by Elaine Fox, though it's more chick lit than anything.  Oh, wait, I did think of another one- the Grace Valley series by Robyn Carr, the heroine inherits a dog named Sadie.  That's a fantastic series- I'd recommend it even without the dog.  There are 3 books the first of which is Deep in the Valley, followed by Just Over the Mountain, and then Down by the River.

I just read A FIREFIGHTER IN THE FAMILY by Trish Millburn.  It is a Harlequin, but interestingly enough, it was written by a PBS member's sister.  It was a pretty good book too... quick read.

The heroine in Kiss and Tell by Cherry Adair has a great dane, or mastiff or some kind of huge dog that is part of the story. It is a romantic suspense book, and pretty steamy.

Accidental Dragon Slayer by Angie Fox, I havent read it yet but I heard it's pretty funny.  It's paranormal.

I haven't read them, but I have a couple of Kristin Hannah's books. I know they have dogs on the cover not sure about in the book, someone else might know that answer better lol.

I second Anyone But You by Crusie!  Fantasic dog and a great older woman/younger man story.  Very funny also!

If you are a fan of Catherine Anderson, I'd recommend Sunkissed.  The book is part of her Coulter/Kendrick series as features one of the twins (both of whom are vets)  This particular book has several different animals, but there is a special one that sort of takes center stage.  The heroine of the book is one of the wokers in the kennel and has suffered a traumatic brain injury that has caused her to have aphasia. Some people think Catherine Anderson is very sugary, but I really like her stories. I didn't think they were overly sweet (not diabetic coma worthy that's for sure).  Anyway, you might want to give it a try if you haven't already.

I second Beware of Doug - the dog named Doug hates men.  He is a real character in the book.

Nora Robert's Tribute - the hero has a great dog - it's contemporary. Seems like I've read others recently too - oh yes, Elizabeth Hoyt's The Raven Prince which is no longer a WL book I guess. It's historical - Regency maybe?

ETA: SEP's It Had To Be You - Phoebe has a dog that isn't exactly pivotal but I love the last scene... The dog is a big part of her life, but not IMO as cute as Crusie's dogs, or the ones in Tribute or Raven Prince.

ETA again! I'm reading JoAnn Ross's Callahan Brothers Trilogy, and Jack in the first book, Blue Bayou, gets adopted by a stray dog he calls Turnip. Again, not really pivotal to the story but a great dog that makes appearances in book 2, River Road. I'm still reading Magnolia Moon, so I'm not sure if Turnip shows up there as well.

Not sure if this would be your type of book but THE SEARCH by Iris Johansen  is about Sara and her partner Monty(a golden retriever) who are part of a K-9 search and rescue team.

I suggest books by Fern Michaels.  She usually has dog heroes in her stories and they are pretty cute! :)

On Thin Ice also by Cherry Adair involves a dog sled team. The only thing that made me crazy was I don't believe she ever mentioned what kind of dogs they were, and that made me a little crazy.

One of my favorite romantic series is by Emily Carmichael. The dog in the books is actually a reincarnation of a woman that did something bad and when she died she came back as a Corgie to make things right. I'll see if I can find links on here.

Finding Mr. Right

Diamond in the Ruff

Gone to the Dogs
