Due to periods of illness when I am bed-ridden I fill time following books to film from various sources. I have done some lists on this subject (mostly for my own use at a Friends of the Library so we can pull from donations to sell right away) and wonder if anyone would like to contribute. They are not only Historical Fiction but since I am particularly interested in Historical Fiction I present it to you/y'all/youse guys. Please do contribute! The lists are currently by date so we don't have 8 versions of Pride and Prejudice and so forth. Voting for the book/film is of no importance to me and I prefer no voting as it will separate related books but I'm willing to be less of a benevolent dictator (tyrant) on that:) I have "Books to Film 2014" and "Books to Film 2015" (except for some comic book based films) I think I have these as a closed lists because I've seen other lists with so many repeats and I am uncertain if I can delete repeats other people post. I don't want to be undemocratic, I just don't want the list to be out of control. Also, "Books to TV, Cable, Internet etc. 2010 to 2015" - this is open so anyone can add if you are interested. "Books to Film - in pre-production and/or no release date yet...... This is open. Note: I only put a few of the Outlander books on there instead of all of them because who knows how far the series will go. I don't have Starz so haven't seen it. Same with the Bernard Cornwell Saxon series. I limited lists to these years as it gets overwhelming otherwise IMHO. Some are only on BBC as of yet but some people (some even related to me) know how to get those on the internet its just not kosher to do so. I have a couple other lists in development but PLEASE feel free to share. Especially in Comments if you like it the movie/show. Or PM me or have a discussion here and I can add - however much or little you are interested. Some books to film I have under Books to TV/Internet as they have never been released in the US, or were released a long time ago but available on the internet. I recevied a book by Arnuldur Indridason (sp?) one of my favorite Scandinavian mystery writers and the person who sent it to me said they had seen the movie on Netflix or amazon prime and I had never even heard it was made into a film. So that piqued my interest for what films are available on the internet never released in US. Thank you. Denise Sometimes I really enjoy seeing a film based on a book but as we all know when they mess around with the characters and plot it can be so disappointing.

Denise, I'm not quite sure what the ultimate purpose of your lists are. However, if you are creating lists of books that you think will be especially popular because they have been turned into a movie or TV series, then I can offer the following insight on the Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon .... At this point, Starz has only announced that the first and second books will be filmed for the Starz series. And the first and second books in the series (Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber) are already showing up on bestseller lists. I even heard that Amazon had for a time run out of stock of Outlander. Now the ratings for the Starz Outlander series have been very good - which is probably one of the reasons that they announced within the first week that they were doing Season 2. So IMO it's likely that there will be other seasons - at least a Season 3 and probably 4. I really don't think that most readers will stop after reading Dragonfly in Amber, so the 3rd book (Voyager) and the 4th book (Drums of Autumn) are likely to show up on the bestsellers list soon as readers make their way through the series. Not sure if the other books will make the best seller lists or not. The fifth book in the series (The Fiery Cross) is really really long, so some readers of the series get stuck there.

Also, Orange is the New Black has been made into a very popular NetFlix series, so I would add it. It's not historical fiction. |

I'll add links to lists I've already made here: (it will take a few edits) sorry I can't remember how to make it so you just click on it http://www.paperbackswap.com/Books-TV-Cable-Internet-2010/list/17887/ http://www.paperbackswap.com/Books-Film-2014-List-NOT/list/17880/ http://www.paperbackswap.com/Books-Film-2015-List-NOT/list/18230/ http://www.paperbackswap.com/Books-Film-Cable-TV-Preproduction/list/17883/
Thank you Lynne. I didn't show where the lists are so maybe it will make more sense if you see them. Maybe. The ultimate purpose is when I am ill enough to be bed-ridden so as not to completely go insane I do research on things one of which is to search for books into film, books that will become shows and so forth; and , then also I use it for a Friends of the Library so they can try to get those books out to the monthly sales. Sometimes people will want to read a book if they know the movie is coming out and read it before they see it so some people on PBS may be interested or not. As you say, these older Outlander books which we have a lot of are once again bestsellers - so I try to get the other volunteers to pay attention and make sure to put them out at the sale (there are over 100,000 books in storage and its usually chaos, etc.) sorry if that doesn't make sense the illness and meds make me a bit confused but I'm trying to stay sane:) i appreciate your input! First, I'm very sorry to hear that you are ill enough to be bed-ridden. No fun! So, I got to thinking a little more about the Outlander books. I also got curious and did a search to see if ANY of the Outlander books are available on PBS. They aren't. None of the main eight books - or the companion book The Outlandish Companion - OR Trail of Fire the collection of Outlander novellas - OR The Exile (a graphic novel) - OR any of the Lord John books (which is a spin-off series that is almost as important as the main series). All books by Diana Gabaldon are heavily wishlisted on PBS. So just to make it easy, you might want to add every book in the Outlander series and the Lord John series to your list. Here's the whole list - from Fantastic Fiction.com. I did remove the novellas from the list, which are currently only available in e-book format. Outlander
1. Cross Stitch (1991) aka Outlander 2. Dragonfly in Amber (1992) 3. Voyager (1993) 4. The Drums of Autumn (1996) 5. The Fiery Cross (2000) 6. A Breath of Snow and Ashes (2005) 7. An Echo in the Bone (2009) 8. Written in My Own Heart's Blood (2014) ** The Outlandish Companion (1999) aka Through the Stones: the Diana Gabaldon Companion ** A Trail of Fire (omnibus) (2012) (this is a collection of novellas in the series) Lord John
1. The Private Matter (2003) 2. The Brotherhood of the Blade (2007) 3. The Scottish Prisoner (2011) ** Lord John and the Hand of Devils (2007) (collection of novellas) Last Edited on: 9/8/14 4:44 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |
