I've had one book go lost on me recently. The sender told me a week or so ahead of time that she had just mailed it. There were no other books in the system and my wish list was full so it transferred over to my reminder list. (haven't seen the book yet either but hopefully it will get here soon.) I have another book about to go lost on me. This book has 38 other copies in the system. Now, if the situation is the same, will my order go to the next person in line? How do I stop it if the first sender tells me that he/she has just mailed it? Do I need to cancel the request 38 times? lol. Thanks in advance. Sue |

I just had this happen. Books were to be mailed late December, the system marked them lost late January. Three days after books went lost, they were received. They weren't mailed until mid-January. The system put the books on my reminder list. One book had 37 books in the system, the other had 1 book. I was going to wait the suggested two weeks before reordering - glad I did. Neither of these books had been on my WL, they were regular FIFO requests. Pat |

WL books go back onto your WL. FIFO orders go to your Reminder list. |

It won't auto-reorder non-WL books for you if they go lost, only if they aren't accepted or marked mailed. For a WL book, I would leave it on my WL and put it on hold for a week or two and then if it didn't show up, unhold it so you are still at the top of the line. If you removed it from your WL and it doesn't show up, you will have to wait behind anyone else on the WL now. |

Interesting Sara, I didn't know that Susan, PBS guidelines suggest waiting two weeks before you re-order. JIC the book shows up, so you don't receive two copies. |

They recommend waiting two weeks after a book is decllared lost before ordering it again because people unfortunately do mail late. However, if the person has mailed the book within one week of it being marked lost, you do not have to mark it received. So wait a little bit since there are so many copies in the system, just in case in has been mailed and then request it. If you find yourself with two copies, make sure that you are marking the proper book received -- your first request would be in your transaction archive and the newer request would be on your account page. |

Actually the wording to that exception is a little different than that and what is left out could make a difference in this case: If the postmark was from the week before the book was declared lost (or later!), and you got no notification from the sender that the book would be/was mailed late: you do not have to mark this book received (this is the ONE case in which you don't have to mark a received book received: if a very late mailer without notice caused you to reorder the book and end up with two copies). So in this case I would defintely hold off on re-requesting the book for a bit and PM the sender to confirm whether the book is in the mail before requesting another copy. And, there have been some weather related delays on the east coast this month. I just received one today that wasn't lost yet, but appears to have taken an extended layover in the NY/NJ area. So if your book was mailed late, then delayed in the mail . . . patience grasshopper Last Edited on: 1/27/11 7:45 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |
