How is it possible for someone to have a significantly higher number of books mailed to them than they have shipped themselves? Just had trouble with the receiver of a book, and her profile shows 135 books received, but only 104 mailed. Could she have complained to more people than just myself and gotten the credit back, thus allowing her to receive more than she mailed?

Not trying to cause trouble, just curious....

Well, she could have bought credits to order books.  That would throw off the balance of sent/received.

oh...and I believe even if there was a problem with a transaction where the credit was returned it would remain in the tally since she would have had to mark it received. (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, though, I have no experience with it)

She most likely bought credits. I have had more books sent to me than I've sent.  My kids never reswap their books so I often find myself buying credits.

Okay, that makes sense. Thanks for explaining!

Members can also transfer credits in from SwapaCD and SwapaDVD  (i.e. they may be sending more CDs and DVDs then they are receiving, but getting more Books).

I received about 50 more books than I've received.  I didn't realize I've bought that many credits, but I guess I have over the years.  I've never had anyone complain about a book I sent either.  I know some people think that it's an indicator of something negative, but I'm not selling book, I'm not hoarding books or anything like that.  I just tend of have slightly obscure tastes and I went on a series collecting binge when I first joined PBS.

Right now I don't have any books on my bookshelf, because of some personal problems this year.  So if my balance isn't off now, it will be at some time.   I have posted over 200 books into the system and still post wishlisted books.   However, for now it works best for me to mostly buy credits instead of mailing out books.   I'd prefer to mail out the books because to me one of the joys of the site is sharing books with others who like them.

However - the inbalance in mailed and received does not say any ONE thing about a member.

Another possibility is that she accumulated many points from another swap site and traded them to other members in exchange for their PBS points. I had to do that last year when an unexpected bill temporarily affected my finances. Buying credits is less of a hassle. Trading involves negotiation. Since PBS has the best selection, swappers want 2 or 3 of another site's points in exchange for each of their PBS points. So a trade can mean losing money

I'm not sure what my ratio is now but for a long time my books out was twice what my books in was.  I had a lot of WL audio books when I joined.  I think I earned about 100 credits my first month.  I had been saving them for years and posted them all when I joined.  But I've only received maybe 5 audiobooks from PBS.   Also I had my account on hold for a long time and only sent out books because I was moving cross country. It's probably about even now since I went on a credit spending spree.

My guess is she bought credits.  She may not have a very active shelf.  Either she doesn't have the time to mail books out anymore so she just buys credits. Or her posted books are very common and thus not getting ordered.  Like someone else said. She may also run deals and send out alot of free books that don't show in the tally.  I know a few people on here who keep most of the books they get. So they end up buying credits.  Or they are just too busy to wrap books up and mail them.

I send out a lot of books for games and those don't show up on the sent tally. Also a lot of freebies for running deals.  I used to do 2 for 1 on all my books because I also had a lot of heavily posted books when I joined.

Also keep in mind that for boxers, the books sent and received does not include box swaps.  I have sent hundreds of books in box swaps, but they are not included in my tally.

However - the inbalance in mailed and received does not say any ONE thing about a member.

In my case, it says that I read and keep a lot of books!   Based on the official numbers, I have received 100+ books more than I've mailed out.

Me too, have more books mailed than received, but then again that number isn't totally correct because it doesn't take into account the extra books received or sent in bazaar deal.  One other reason, saving credits for WL books only.  The longer I'm here the less I shop around for books in the system because I don't want to find myself credit poor if a WL book comes in.
