i had my account on vacation hold for 5/21 until 5/29, tomorrow. I did got back tonight, a day early.  I had 2 book orders in my mail pile. They were both mailed on 5/21. On 5/27 I received a PBS message that the delivery confirmation showed them delivered on 5/24 so why hadn't I marked them received. How can PBS expect members to mark books received when one is on vacation and went to the trouble to put the account on hold?

The emails are automated based on the time and tracking scans. Don't worry about it as long as you mark them received in a timely fashion.

If you were ever going to be gone for an extended period of time, just try not to order any books for a few weeks before hand and remove auto from all WL books in conjunction with a Vacation Hold to stop any offers.

Sounds like they were autorequested WL books that were posted right before your hold went into effect. Then they were mailed quickly and traveled quickly.

Also, even though it's called "vacation hold", a lot of people use when they're at home to manage their budgets or just too busy to send out books. In these cases, people should be marking books received promptly, so a reminder is a good thing.

FYI-- many members here actually recommend you put WL books on auto-accept when you're on vacation so you don't miss out on the acceptance timeframe.

Elizabeth - if I happen to receive a book (and this only applies if the person sending the book uses DC), and I get that message from PBS when I'm on vacation, I try to send the sender a message saying, 'the PO shows the book was received.  I'm away/on vacation (whatever) at the present time, but will mark the book appropriately when I return."  This way the sender knows that I'm not just forgetting to mark the book - and really if they've used DC they've gotten their credit already.  Pat

Actually, I am going on vacation for two weeks starting Monday, I've already let people know who are sending me books - either already in the mail or soon to be mailed - that I will be gone for two weeks and will mark the books received when I return. Most just wished me a good vacation, if they answered at all. One did express concern, but I suspect it was a relatively new member who didn't know that PBS starts sending out 'remember to accept" messages three weeks after the book is mailed. I told that person about the PBS reminders. After all, PBS gives books a month to make it to you before asking if they are lost.

I think I am weird probably.

I am away from home sometimes 4-5 weeks at a time.  All my wish list books are on auto.   When the book has been mailed for two weeks OR when it says delivered, I mark it received.   I don't want someone out waiting and waiting for their credit.   I've never had it happen, but I am willing to take the chance that maybe a book will be RWAP once I open them.  If it is, I'd just realize my desire to continue to receive books while traveling makes that a possibility.

I don't always have computer access when I'm away. But with the tips from above hopefully I won't have this problem again.
