SInce I have tons of books to get rid of (or there's going to be a divorce in my house, lol) I have posted over 250 books.  I check about every 3 months to make sure I did not dump (um gently put) a book in the boxes without posting them.  But today, I found that about 25 books that I have had on my bookshelf for a bit were no longer there.  I checked with the old list I kept from January and yup, they were on that list, but not on my current list that I printed on 4/21.

So, to make a long story short - do the books get removed from the posted bookshelf after being on there for a long time?  And if not, why did these books get removed from my posted book list?  Also, I checked my history and there were no requests for the books that had been removed from my list

Nope, they don't become unposted until someone requests them or you remove them.  They would be automatically removed if requested and you didn't respond.  I can't think of any other way they'd fall off your bookshelf.

They wouldn't show up in your transaction archive if you let requests time out without accepting them.  They would be removed from your shelf.

Also how do you have your shelf sorted? I've never played with the sorting. But I think if you sort by Author some of your books can disappear.  They are still posted but don't show up when you look at your own shelf because they have multiple authors or something like that.

I've never let a request time out, but I have missed a couple when I forgot to put myself on vacation.  But there were over 25 books missing and I had to repost them.  I just found this very odd.

Thanks for your thoughts on this matter

If you sort by author the list will show fewer books than you have.  I play with the sorting all the time.  Sometimes it's easier to find books by date for me so that's the one I use most often.  I have so much trouble with the authors' sorting and searching here that I rarely use it.

When TPTB did some recent work on the WL a lot of strange things happend, such as books getting added to a WL that had previously been removed.  I personally had about 50 books suddenly show up on my WL that I'd already gotten through PBS, or had otherwise removed months previously.  I wonder if those changes that caused that could have also affected some bookshelves?

I have some books that have been posted for waaayyy longer then that, and so far none have fallen off.   I go back and check everyonce in awhile just to be sure I still have the books on my list.   I wonder if books did time out while you were on vacation - that would remove them.  Otherwise, strange.

If you "missed a couple while on vacation and forgot to go on hold" those books would be removed from your shelf.
