I posted some books with "knitting patterns", and thought they would show up in that category when searched.  Is there a way to get them into a certain category?  I think they'd be much more likely to get found by people looking for such things if they actually showed up when people searched for kntting patterns.  I put in the tags of "knitting patterns" and "knitting", but now I'm told that doesn't effect the search.

I just checked both of your books.  They both have a cover photo, description, and correct genre (knitting), so there shouldn't be a problem with people finding them and ordering them.  Craft books don't get posted often, so I bet they'll be snapped up quickly.

Like I said in your other thread, your books are posted into the system. Someone looking for posted knitting books will find them.  You just have too look at your bookshelf and you can see that you have 2 books posted into the system.  Books don't always instantly get ordered, sometimes they sit for awhile.

I don't know much about the demand for knitting books because I am not a knitter.  But it's been my experience that recent crafty type books go pretty quickly because they are books people tend to keep and so don't post as often and they are usually heavier and more expensive to mail and also usually more expensive to acquire new.

Tags are somewhat searchable in that you can click on a tag applied to a book and bring up all the other books with that tag.  So someone looking at another knitting book, can click on that knitting tag and it'll bring up every book with that tag to give them other ideas.  They can also look under the Tag Cloud and bring up the books listed with various forms of a knitting/needlework tag.  They can find knitting themed books by doing a "knitting" search and selecting it to show only non-fiction, crafts etc..,

You can also edit book listing data yourself to make sure it has every applicable genre listed.

It looks as if one of the books has already been ordered smiley

I want to thank you all for your help.  One did get ordered, and it's on it's way :).  I'm just frustrated that my pattern books don't come up when I do a specific search for "knitting patterns".  When I do that search I get all kinds of things, like the paperback knitting mysteries.  They're mysteries with a knitting theme that many might be surprised to learn even exist :).  I also see listed serveral copies of "A Tale of Two Cities", which, if I remember right, only has a few lines about some woman who knitted socks while heads got lopped off on the guillotine.  My pattern books do come up when I search "knitting", but it's mostly just a much longer list of the things in the "knitting patterns" search., most of which have little, if anything, to do with knitting patterns, and my books are lost in the shuffle.

If you want them to specifically come up when searching that phrase, try adding that phrase to the description.

Also someone searching for just instructional books will probably exclude the fiction stuff when they do their search.

Glad someone ordered one of your books!  Am quite sure the second one will go quickly, too.  At least that's been my experience with knitting & crochet books and many other crafty books as well.  They also move quite well in the Book Bazaar, so if you have several you want to get rid of at once, post them all there (I recently got 2 credits for 5 unpostable crochet pattern booklets there, so you can make whatever deal you want, and cut way down on the S&H costs by mailing similar books out to one person).

Sassy has nailed it:

If you want them to specifically come up when searching that phrase, try adding that phrase to the description.

A search will only find books with the search words somewhere  in the listing.  You can click on the title, then on "more options" --> "edit book data" and add a sentence to the description that includes the words "knitting patterns."

Those are some more great suggestions.  I'm happy to say both books have been requested :).  Thanks everyone!

Also, if you have a book on your bookshelf, you won't see an "order this book" button when you search for it.  Other people will see the order button, though.  Good news that they were both ordered!

Also, books are searchable by genre.

And although tags don't show up in a search, if you click on a tag, you'll see all the other books with the same tags.
