Questions about PaperBackSwap
Topic: Books on shelf, but not in search?

I have 7 books on my shelf by Robert Asprin. When I search by author for him, only 4 books appear, and none of them are mine? (I wish I hadn't found this...I don't want to have to check them all. :-) Any ideas on why they don't appear? I'm sure more people are searching by author than are looking at my particular shelf, so I'd like them to be seen, but I have no idea what to do about it.

I am not sure where/what you are searching. I just did a search for Robert Asprin and about 100 books came up ... and then I clicked on his author link and I didn't count them but there looked like more than 50 titles there. Hmmm. That's good news. I put his name in the search box at the top of the page. That sent me to the search page and it was automatically put in the keyword field. I cut and pasted to the "author" box and searched again using paperback and hardcover only. I got only 4 books. I'm sure glad you (and others) find more! Thanks for checking it out.

Did you make sure when you searched that you hit the 'All books' and not simply 'posted books' or one of the other qualifiers? This is probably not your problem, but I thought I would throw it out there. I have a few Asprin books myself, and when I search them I get quite a few(plus they show up with a number of copies on my reminder list as well) --Aileene |

I did only Posted Books and still came up with 94 books |

That's so weird! I don't get anywhere near those numbers. I just tried it again (from the search box at the top of this page) and then just putting in Robert Asprin as author and letting the default check everything but LP, and I get: All books - 59, posted - 7, and WL - 10. I guess if everyone else gets more it's good, but I sure am confused as to why I don't!

AH HA - I don't know why this is, but I do know what it is! I was using Opera for PBS because I was adding/editing book series data earlier and it doesn't lock up on me like IE does. The totals in the post above are what I got with Opera. Using IE, I get 283 for all books, 95 posted and 56 WL. I have no clue why there is such a large discrepancy between the totals in the two browsers - but that is definitely the difference/problem! Since not many people use it, it's not a big deal, but it sure had me confused/worried about where my books were and if anyone but me could see them! |
