Just wondering if anybody has noticed if there was a book being turned into a movie if there was an increase of people wanting the book? I was curious due to the book The Last Victim by Jason Moss was being turned into a movie called Dear Mr. Gacy.  There is currently only 7 paperback copies in the system. The used bookstore by me had at least 5 copies of it in stock and was thinking of picking them up to eventually post.  Was wondering if it would be worthwhile to get them or would I be stuck with multiple copies of the same book?

I think it depends on how popular the movie will be.  I haven't heard of the book or the movie but there are books like..."Tuck Everlasting" that when it came out in movies, the books were flying off the shelves.  A Series of Unfortunate Events and the Chronicals of Narnia (for some reason that title looks off but I can't tell why...) are another good example of the box and book sets that became very popular when they were produced into movies.  Well, they were always popular.  But when the movies were made, people who had read them 10 years ago wanted another copy and the people who had never read them wanted to try them also.

But then a book like Angels and Demons, I think, was popular when it first came out and that was recently enough that I doubt they got a lot of NEW readers based on the movie coming out.  A John Grisham movie hasn't come out recently enough for me to compare that one either.

I don't buy books just to post unless they are very inexpensive. (Like 50 cents or less). It is cheaper to just buy a credit than it is to buy a book that I don't want to read and pay postage to mail it, in most cases. I have bought books from garage sales and FOL sales just to post, though. (But they have to be a bargain).

I've seen quite a few books get very popular once they have a TV show or movie made from them ... I think it does depend somewhat on how popular or critically acclaimed the show or movie is.

I know the wish list Marley and Me shot up when the movie came out. I would be hesitant to buy too many copies of the same book if it is not already wish listed. You can only post one to your shelf at a time, so even if it did get requested more you'd have to wait for in line with each copy and not be able to start the wait on the next copy until your first one was marked mailed.

Also with the movie havng a different title than the book people may not make the connection so much.

I wouldn't buy them unless the book went to WL and then I would only buy them if they were super, super cheap. You can buy a credit in teh book bazaar for around $2.50.  I don't buy books just to post unless they are .50 or less like someone else said they do.

Also like Melanie said: you can only post one copy of an ISBN at once.  So if they are all the same edition-you'd have to wait for the 7 copies currently posted to get ordered before your 1st copy was ordered, then you'd have to mark that one mailed before you post the 2nd copy and then wait for that one to get ordered, plus any copies that get posted by other members during this time before you could post the 3rd copy and so on.  It could take months for you to be able to post several copies into the system.

Where is this Book Bazaar where you can buy credits for $2.50?  Thanks!

Go to the Book Bazaar forum and then look for the threads with credits for sale.

It is my experience that books made into movies are suddenly a hot commodity here with the exception of one like "Angels and Demons" which was heavily posted long before the movie came out. Precious (Push), Nights at Rodanthe and even The Martian Child are all examples of books/movies from the last few years that suddenly had l-o-n-g wishlists for. If you are not sure, either look at the wishlists or check how many copies are in the system before you rush out to buy books to list.
