Hi everybody, I'm hoping you can help me with some book recommendations for my niece (12 years old). She lives with her dad (no Mom in the picture), and I don't see her more than a couple of times a year (she lives far away). She is starting puberty and her Dad tells me that she is not comfortable discussing with him these kinds of topics. So, I'm looking for (non-fiction) books about puberty and sexuality/sex education for her that will give her facts so that she doesn't get wrong information from her friends. Something age appropriate but still educational enough that she can read it as she has questions. Thanks! |

Hi Sara, This is a great thing that you're doing for your niece. I've looked through my library, and here are a few books that I remembered really helping me when I was around that age and wanting to find out about puberty and similar topics: Every Girl's Life Guide (DK Healthcare by Miriam Stoppard What's Happening to My Body? Book for Girls by Lynda Madaras I also greatly enjoyed and learned a lot from Judy Blume's books, in particular Just as Long as We're Together, which deals with puberty and changing middle school friendships. Hope this helps! Last Edited on: 3/9/09 8:38 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I have a book on my shelf called When The Breast Fairy comes. That could be helpful. I could look through it and let you know what I think about it if you want me to. |

American Girls has a series of books about caring for your self as well as books on manners and boys. Also the fiction book Are you THere God its ME Margaret, is always a good one, though a bit out dated on feminine care products. |
